As he put more effort into curling one off, he was shocked by the ship going to red alert. He stumbled off the throne and fell to the floor within his trousers around his ankles. It cannot end like this he though as the walls and reality dissolved around him".

As the Earth literally came to pieces around him - Tom's last thoughts were not his wife or children but that time he made sweet sweet love to a lizard while being a lizard. How many people could say that on their death bed? He smiled as the end came.
