Gizmodo had a great article on the advantages of the new smaller Imaxs compared to regular digital theaters. The full read is at http://gizmodo.com/5250625/cineplexes-getting-imax-but-is-it-imax-or-conspiracy?skyline=true&s=x
The key points are these:
1)It definitely is smaller
2)It pretty much the current only expansion plan for Imax
3)The seats are closer to make it feel bigger
4)The projection system is better. They use 2 2k projectors with special syncing tech to create a better PQ than regular projects, even a 4k one.
5)The sound system is far better both in quality and configuration. It is more powerful and they pay attention to how the surroud sound is everyone in the theater and not in the middle.
I like how its described in the article. IMAX Lite.
