Star Trek Books FAQ Mega-Update!

Since there are technically (in theory) an infinite amount of Kira's they should all end up in a conversation at some point...
But seriously, once I had some time to think about it, and Fearful Symmetry helped, it all came together...

How to make a FAQ without spoilers... difficult for those who stopped early, especially if they took a break around Worlds- the worse possible time to!

I had another idea, but I should consider it more carefully...

There are many online places and lists and such that still haven't been updated for the facts that FS has come, and SK is coming... :( The sooner they are, the sooner everyone will be as excited as meeee!

Just out of curiousity... In that tally, were the 3 Terok Nor books counted as DS9 or as "cross-series"?

^ Off the top of my head, I don't recall, and the only way to be sure is to tabulate the list again, which I'm not of a mind to do just at the moment, but I'm fairly certain that I did include Terok Nor as DS9.

^Ok, just curious. It's been a big debate of mine whether to shelve it along with the rest of DS9 or as a seperate miniseries. :)

I shelved it with the rest of TLE myself, but I have all of the series in chronological order, with the books in the series in release order.

I think Terok Nor is counted as The Lost Era since it appears at that time and has TLE written on it. But i shelve it behind my DS9 Relaunch Books as some of the material is somewhat relevant and linking.

I mean, it fairly obviously is DS9. But if they titled it that, then there'd be yet another ridiculously long, colon-ed title. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Terok Nor: Day of the Vipers. Ugh. Even losing just one layer helps tremendously there.

The words "The Next Generation" appear nowhere on the covers of any of the A Time to..., but nobody seriously considers them anything other than TNG novels........

Yeah, I've thought about that. For the most part, I've shelved according to orders set out in VOTI as I think it has a pretty logical layout. Some new titles though, the OCD in me made me uncertain, such as whether to put the Terok Nor books along with DS9 or in the miniseries section (which has usually been reserved for cross-series books, except for perhaps the A Time To... mini). I also wasn't sure whether I should include the recent Excelsior book along with TOS or in the unique books section along with Articles of the Federation.

I actually put my Terok Nor with the other Lost Era books since they say A Tale of the Lost Era.

Yeah, that's one of those things where I think it can fit in multiple places (VOTI did this a lot too). For example, The Lives of Dax was included in both the DS9-R section as well as the short stories.

But they're also obviously DS9 novels. They use the same typeface for the logo, they feature DS9 characters, and they feature the space station that we know as DS9.

Obviously, you need to buy two copies of each book and file one set with DS9 and one set with Lost Era.

Hmm, you guys do a have good point, I think I'll actually go move them, and I'll put The Buried Age with TNG too.

I just checked and it turns out that the DS9 post finale books are actually the earliest 24th Century books I have, so Terok Nor is actually at the end of The Lost Era books and the beginning of the DS9 books.

Personally, I'd put Terok Nor prior to the Emissary novelisation and The Buried Age before the Encounter at Farpoint novelisation, since chronologically they both take place prior to the opening episode.

That said, my books are placed in publication order by series.

You know, when you alphabetize by author, you don't have any of these problems...........

And it doesn't follow any logical reading order! Plus, how am I supposed to remember what schmo wrote Articles of the Federation when I want to pull it out again. ;)

I was going to do that, but they arrange in nicer chunks on my shelf if I put Terok Nor with the Lost Era. If I don't, I have to split A Time To... in half, and it looks less awesome that way.
