Eh. Give me some Kickstarter money, a couple of computers, a green screen, a month or two, and I bet I could do that.

Actually, yeah. The movie is visually stunning. Lots of attention to detail and obvious imagination went into it.

Visually, beyond blows the other two out of the water.

Visually, Beyond blows pretty much every bit of Star Trek out of the water. But that should be expected when they spend $200 million dollars on a film.

I could go for a TV series set on Starbase Yorktown.

Commodore Paris mentioned to Kirk that Starfleet's most technologically-advanced ship is under construction at the Starbase Yorktown. Could this be a hint for a future movie?

I think that was the enterprise A they were talking about. Who knows it may have been originally called yorktown and renamed once they learned of the enterprises fate.

I can see average joe reviewers (as in, non-Trekkies) saying the movie was too "boring, talky" and needs to be more like the other two :p:whistle:

Box Office Mojo has STB coming in at $59.6 million for the weekend. That doesn't include the $13.5 million it made before the Friday opening. That's down 15 percent from the $70.1 million STID opened at. The overall domestic take for STB is predicted to be $180 to $190 million (versus $257.7 million for ST09 and $228.7 million for STID), which given its budget, as the story says, means it will really have to rely on foreign revenue to judge its performance.

In the US, 57 percent of goers were male and 73 percent of all attendants were over age 25. It's CinemaScore was A-. ST09 and STID received full A's.

In the UK, STB opened number two at $6.1 million, 15 percent below ST09 and a whopping 37% below STID. In Germany, it opened first at $4.5 million, up from ST09, but down 29% from STID.

Just not a good year at the box office in general, I guess.
