Was not that impressed. He was okay (maybe if I watch again he'll grow on me). Didn't spot any Shatner resemblance. Comparisons with Harrison Ford as Indy are way off. I think Chris Pine would be better in that part, e.g. the bar fight in ST09.

I like Pratt but his voice is way off for Kirk. He voiced Emmit in lego movie not Kirk level. Pine is solid but the script hasn't lended him to shatner esque level

Hoping he has a Shatner like speech w Krall at end

The early reactions are getting me even more excited.
It all looks like we'll be getting 3 good Trek movies in a row.

What a time to be alive.

I'd disagree about three good films in a row, but I'm still incredibly excited, especially reading these early reviews.

Just in the clips we've seen so far from STB, he seems to invoke a more "Shatneresque" Kirk sometimes in look or delivery. If it's deliberate, that's probably because he's closer in age and experience to Kirk Prime when we met him in TOS. I doubt he's gone as far that his performance is now an homage to Shatner's Kirk, just that I'm guessing his Kirk has grown to be more and more like the Kirk from TOS. Two Kirks becoming one person, essentially.

Going back to before ST09, they said casting Kirk was the hardest role to fill. Turns out Pine has been brilliant.

Having read all the reactions to STB I can find, I get the feeling that if your favorite iteration of Trek is TNG, you probably won't LOVE this movie, but if you're primarily a TOS fan, STB will be more up your alley.

I like good Trek, whether it's TOS, TNG, DS9 etc.

Good Trek is the same at its core regardless of which series.

I respectfully disagree.

I like good Trek, whether it's TOS, TNG, DS9 etc.

Good Trek is the same at its core regardless of which series.

Most people don't like all iterations of Trek equally.

The reason I made my comment is because TNG is a more serious, colder version of Trek, while TOS can be a little more silly. I get the impression that Beyond captures some of that silliness, so if you're primarily a TNG fan, you probably won't like the film as much as someone whose primarily a TOS fan.
