Here's a really weird and pointless nitpick:
I hate it when they put zippers down the backs of Star Trek costumes. Design the damned things so that either you can't see the closures or put them where a reasonable person would put them in real clothing.
(No, zippers down the backs of women's clothes have never looked good or practical, either).

I completely agree. The TNG costumes were the worst for it as it was incredibly obvious and awkward
The 2009/ID zip placement seemed far more convenient on the main shirt and hidden fairly well on the undershirt.That said - I do like that these ones only seem to be partially zipped, which makes it look a tad more logical.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that's bugged. I really hated it on TNG uniforms, too.
Is there a practical real world costuming reason for it? I mean, a lot of women's dresses zip in the back, but that's for fashion, not practicality. A "uniform" doesn't have to follow the conventions of women's fashions. Could it be a more elastic "over the head" fabric loses its look over weeks of wear during shooting or something like that? I mean, this isn't just a Trek thing when it comes to costuming. You see it other places.

I really like everything they've shown about her character so far. She's shaping up to be one of the highlights of the film.
They could attach a lanyard like on a wetsuit.
Or, turn it into a cute character moment when Kirk and Spock meet in the turbo lift on the way to the bridge:

KIRK: 'morning Spock. ( turns away and coqettishly flips his hair to the side) Um....zip me up???
Don't quote me on it - but I always assumed it was for make up reasons. Over the head and fitted would either interfere with make up after it's applied, or restrict access to apply make up.
I've never looked into it and never had to deal with it on a set (the most I've worn during a heavy makeup session was lycra which was pulled over the work, and my on-camera experience is limited)
I never really understood why Star Trek is so averse to buttons. They're a pretty time-tested technology.
