Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I found this description of some extra footage that was shown at the fan event:

We open with Chris Pine’s Captain James T. Kirk recording a Captain’s Log (Stardate 2263.45, for those keeping track).

As we cut to different locations around the Enterprise, Kirk’s log is heard, explaining how the crew has made it three years into the Enterprise’s five year mission and that being in space so long has created some interesting challenges. We see three male crew members eyeing a female officer, another couple making out and second couple having a fight.
The Federation, at this point, has now expanded to more than 200 different worlds and changes have taken place in the lives of the crew. On the bridge, we see Jon Cho‘s Hikaru Sulu has a photograph of his baby daughter placed in the upper left corner of the helm. (A great nod to the original timeline’s future Enterprise B helmsman, Damora Sulu). Meanwhile, Kirk stares into a closet full of nothing but the same gold command tunic, as he records that has been “episodic”.

We’re next with Kirk and Karl Urban’s Dr. Leonard McCoy. It’s Kirk’s birthday and he’s sitting in his quarters with a bottle of Saurian Brandy. Bones, however, has a stolen bottle of Glenlivet that he says he stole from Chekov’s locker.

“You’d think he would drink–,” Kirk begins.

“Vodka?” Bones nods. “Right?”

Kirk and McCoy begin to talk. McCoy knows that Kirk hates celebrating his birthday on the day because it’s the day that Kirk lost his dad (as we saw back in the opening scene of J.J. Abrams’ first Star Trek). Kirk is now one year older than his father ever was. He’s beginning to wonder if he really joined Starfleet because it’s who he is or if it’s because he wants to live up to the legacy of his dad. Together, the friends clink their Scotch against a third glass in memory of George Kirk.

this is going to be a nice heart-warming scene between Jim and Bones.

Here's a screengrab from the trailer. Sure looks like Enterprise 1701 to me.

Yeah, I was focusing on Spock wearing a jacket which has another vessel's name. The letter does look like it but I don't know where in the film the sequences are happening.

Could this been an NX class ship that the crew uses to get back into space?
That would be the USS Franklin, which from what we've seen of it here, and in the concept art, appears to be a more advanced design than the NX, but still much older (not to mention smaller) than the Enterprise. It certainly shares a great deal in common with the NX though, and is found on the planet after the Enterprise goes down.

Sounds good to me.

?????????????????????????????????????????????????
In case of any confusion, I'm referring to any new ship Kirk and crew may get at the end of the movie. Kind of playing on the fanon that Enterprise-A introduced in TVH was really the Yorktown, renamed.

I can't wait to see the looks on their faces if the punishment for losing the Enterprise, is just fixing up the Franklin and assigning the command staff and a skeleton crew to her permanently.

Why would it even have to be another Enterprise?
Probably the same reason why Kirk and Spock HAD to be best buddies in Into Darkness when everything about their relationship suggested otherwise, or the same reason why one of the two HAD to sacrifice themselves while the others screamed "KHAAAAAAAAAAAN!" in a comical fashion.

Why's that?

Loved the trailer too, BTW, just sounds like a big claim to make. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

I agree with the statement also. I think this trailer looks amazing, and the film is giving out much more of a sci fi vibe than the first two movies despite being action orientated. The warp bubble and space station are good examples of this. I can't wait.
