Reading misogynistic arguments about Uhura make me feel some pity for writers. It must really suck when you tell a story, but some people pretend it's a completely different thing because they are too focused projecting their own sexism and double standards on you.
If you don't like the woman fine, but pretending that your 'try too hard' hatred for her having agency like the guys is some sort of 'pro good role models for women' activism is a like a bad joke written by someone without sense of humor.
Yeah, Alice Eve's underwear scene was put in to the film because the writers really wanted to show the human everyday side to Carol Marcus and not to show boobies. Literally no sex appeal to it. Hell, they could have shown her butt naked, but it doesn't matter, because I'm a very mature man and she's just changing, nothing else to it.
Oh, and you're a raging sexist oppressive male who hates all women.
This place is absolutely unbearable. I'm done.
Hell, I am a lonely miserable human being practically starving for human affection but I didn't think anything of Alice Eve's changing scene, either. I thought it was cute because she was completely wise to Kirk's mannerisms. I saw no gratuitous anything in that shot.
Warning for trolling. Comments to PMThat's funny. Even JJ admitted it was a mis-step on a late-night talk-show. Just like he admitted that he went overboard on lens-flare, since even his wife started complaining about it.
It's interesting how fans can be even MORE defensive than the creators.

Well it is, after all, the phonetic middle syllable of her name....used to essentially call Uhura a whore...
I always try to not be ironic when I make psychological accusations of projection.Reading misogynistic arguments about Uhura make me feel some pity for writers. I liked how matter of fact the scene was. The way people go on, you'd think it was a slow motion striptease with the camera panning over her body inch by inch.Hell, I am a lonely miserable human being practically starving for human affection but I didn't think anything of Alice Eve's changing scene, either. Nah, you just have to know when and where to look.I presume the Alice Eve underwear scene was included because it'd make good trailer raw material. You wouldn't see a Judi Dench type character get a scene like that, that's for sure.
That is the essence of competition, after all. Challenging others to do better. If Star Wars did some things better, than it could be argued that it could improve Star Trek by demonstrating another way of going about it, rather than the same old, same old."I have deided to ignore all problems, therefore everyone who mentions any problems must be wrong" is not that great an argument...
What got lost a bit in this turmoil is, none of us actually hates Uhura, Zaldana, or the portrayal of her character in JJTrek. It's definetely not as bad as some other examples, like say the depiction of Megan Fox in the Bayformers franchise. But there is room for improvement for her character. A LOT of room for improvement. And Trek got a bit outdistanced in what was once it's own field by it's current, arguibly a bit more successfull competition. Pointing that out can understandably hurt a bit. But that's the only way to get improvement in this field.

or Worf and Troi in STTNG, or Worf and Dax in DS9; etc. . . .so the "no-fraternity rules" is a completely BS argument.
