Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

We've been over this many times. Both Lin and Pegg say the trailer is not an indication of the tone of the movie. And reshoots are normal.

But we know the basic plot. We know the "feature players". Only thing we don't know is the ending.
The good guys win, but with a cost.

Looks like things are a happenin!

Quote: Paramount Studios will kick off the studio presentations Monday night, bringing talent such as Will Arnett and Megan Fox from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. But all eyes will be on Star Trek Beyond, with producer J.J. Abrams and star/screenwriter Simon Pegg attending ahead of the July 22 release date.

Hi all,

Further to STB being promoted by Paramount at Cinemacon, beginning this coming Monday, I found the following page.

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/features/675065-cinemacon-posters-gallery

Scroll through the posters gallery to see all the STB posters at Cinemacon, amongst others.

Despite all the conspiracy theories out there, it does look like July 22 2016 has been locked in.

And Paramount are marketing the film as directed by JL and produced by JJA. I'm happy with that!

Was hoping the posters would be new art rather than shots from the trailer, but I must admit it does evoke the very first pic of ST'09 released, a shot of the USS Kelvin under attack.

In a new interview with Film Journal International featured (in print) at this week's CinemaCon theater owners convention in Las Vegas, STAR TREK BEYOND director Justin Lin shares some more insight into how he was hired for the project, as well as a look into some more new information on this July's adventure.

Lastly, the director touched on the subject of Leonard Nimoy - a participant in the last two films - and how his death will affect BEYOND.

"It's something you'll see in the film. It obviously affected everybody, because he's been a big part of our lives. There's an attempt to acknowledge that in some way."

The new interview with JL basically re-affirms everything he has said and is on records previously.

Can't wait for STB to come out.

Won't be long before the next trailer then.

I hope this will cheer up the "trufans" who are always being betrayed. ;)

It should, the more I read about this movie the more it sounds like it's a dream come true for those 'purists' who didn't like the first two movies and have a strong 60s nostalgia..

But you can bet those people will still hate and complain.

Ps: I sure hope that aknoveledging Nimoy's passing doesn't mean killing Spock Prime... That would be lame, uninspired and unnecessary.

With 2 fans at the helm this time (Lin and Pegg) I do have high hopes. I like what Lin said about the enterprise
that it will be deconstructed and rebuilt rather than destroyed

I wish Megan Fox was in every Paramount movie.

Agreed.

My suggestion: Using the [technobabble], after having gotten nuVulcan started, and in a desire to not further influence the alternate reality, Spock attempts to make his way back home to his own time and reality. Perhaps his experience finding nuVulcan will aid in helping the surviving Romulans find a New Romulus - maybe even on the same planet as the alternate. Whether his attempt is a success or failure will never be known by the nuCrew.

I'm a little leery any time someone uses the word "deconstruct." It's like "Let's make Superman a flawed alcoholic heroin addict chain smoking womanizer as the high concept in our next film" sort of deal. No thanks. But Lin seems to be quite literal here and with Pegg writing, it should be okay... Maybe they'll finally circumcise those honking big nacelles.

here's the whole interview by Lin if anyone wants to read it

Lin will 'break hearts' with his comment about him not being a trekkie

honestly, I don't feel one way or another about what he says, beside always getting the feeling they say what they think fans want them to say (this is not exclusive to this team, tbh, very often what people say in interviews doesn't translate to the screen) . Generally speaking, there is nothing new here . Even in terms of the characters, they keep saying the same generic things about the same characters and it's getting a bit limited. I have to agree with some that the promotion of this movie is a tad underwhelming so far in terms of creating hype and excitement, at least for me.
If I have to find an 'issue' in what this team says it is a lack of balance between talking about tos, and acknowledging this story and this version of the characters as their own too.. because in the end, this is still a continuation of the first two movies and it's for this trek you are working and making a sequel for, not the other. I hope they don't lose track of the fact that a good part of the audience of these movies might not be hardcore tos fans but it's people whose interest was picked by JJ's movies enough they'll give a chance to this one too.
There must be a balance between wanting to make a movie thinking about what pre-existing trek fans want (which is a flawed logic by itself because you can't know that and can't base that on a minority of people posting online) , without alienating the, well, fans that made this reboot successful, in the first place.
I get that this team got a difficult job because ultimately neither old trek, nor the new, was created by them. No one said it was easy but it's the way it is.

I am hopeful about BEYOND because it does seem a bit more lighthearted, which I prefer. I think things like the Marvel films have shown that you can do a good story with high stakes & destruction porn but also keep it from becoming oppressive.

When Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond hits theaters later this summer, it will look and sound better than any Star Trek film before it. The improved audiovisual experience will be due to the movie being shown in Dolby Cinema. The technology consists of Dolby Atmos audio and Dolby Vision projectors, which are capable of HDR (high dynamic range) and HFR (high frame rate) in both 2D and 3D.

I continue to be cautiously optimistic and everything that has come out in the last 24 hours has only reinforced that feeling.

I'm sticking with my prediction for an opening weekend of about $85m in North America, excluding any previews sessions.
