Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I'm still confused by the whole "implausible size" nonsense. Its a spaceship, I didn't know that there could be such a thing as an "implausible size"?

Well, it's two and a half times the length of the Prime-universe NCC-1701, and is even larger than the Enterprises D and E from a century later. In historical context, it seems anachronistically large. (Plus there's the fact that it was built on the ground rather than in space. Given that, a larger ship is definitely more implausible.)

I think the size detractors took issue with scaling as well. I don't remember if the Enterprise was mentioned, but I recall watching a video where they pointed out the ridiculous scaling issues with the Vengeance.

Just saw the trailer a little while, and I loved it. It looks like it should be a lot of fun. I'm really happy that we are finally getting a movie that appears to be focusing on new stuff. I love both of JJ Abrams Trek movies, but the fact that they focused so much on Earth and preexisting aliens was my least favorite aspect.
So was the grey skinned alien we saw Kirk fighting Idris Elba? They cut right to that scene after his voice over like it might be him.

Star Trek: Sem Fronteiras. Something like "Star Trek: No Frontier".:bolian:

Or Star Trek Without Borders, by analogy to Medecins Sans Frontieres, aka Doctors Without Borders. Or maybe Star Trek Unlimited? Roughly similar to Beyond in its sense, if not exactly.

Wait.

The starship size debate is still twitching on the ground?!? I thought it was dead, Jim.

Okay, then, what about them blue nacelles? Yea or nay?

Maybe when they build the nuNCC-1701-A, Starfleet'll realize that if they'd been red instead of blue, one wouldn't have fallen off in the events of STB. :techman:

In one of the IDW Star Trek comics, one of the alternate versions had red nacelles. It looked pretty slick. :techman:

Star Trek technology is indistinguishable from magic. They can build it on the ground if they want to. ;)

On Stargate, the Gou'ald built ships in midair for seemingly no reason other than to look cool with less advanced technology.

The Xindi could build ships bigger than the TOS Enterprise on the seabed like it was nothing.

Building it on the ground bring an "issue" is getting old.

Exactly. The only reason why we can't build large space crafts on the ground is because our technology is so very primitive. We rely on traditional chemical rockets which require a lot of fuel just to lift any sizeable craft off the ground. That is why our rockets are so big compared to the actual package being put in orbit. But a more advanced civilization would have no problem building a large space ship on the ground since they would have the technology to effortlessly lift it into orbit.

It looks more like a TV ad, than a trailer.

I like the new uniforms, and I see they've brought the classic beaming effect back...

??? It looks like it has a huge budget..lot's of worldbuilding and sets. Not sure what you mean...Insurrection looked like a TV episode, this is nothing of the kind.

There are two sounds of teleportation in the trailer. Spock and Kirk. The first sound is the old Enterprise and the second is the new Enterprise. This makes me wonder if we will have a journey through time or is there an old ship off reminiscent of the Enterprise - TOS.
Why are they hearing an old song of the earth? Why does Sofia tell Kirk that she knows the reason they're there?

I suspect they are on an older Starfleet ship that has transporters and music from the past on board.
