Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

Dubai and the Vancouver woods are very different environments: different planets, or different locations on same planet?

We're in deep space. We could be visiting just one planet there. Who knows.

But he self-identifies as Vulcan, so we should respect his life choice. ;)

Respecting one's life choice is one thing, risking your life during blood transfusion is another. He should defer to McCoy for this one. Who does he think he is... Kirk?! :p

McCoy: Are you feeling light headed or more logical than usual, after the transfusion?

Spock: Doctor, I see no need to lie here and be insulted.

Did anyone already post this interview by Quinto?

Forgive me for changing the subject, but looking at your now iconic eyebrows, I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask how filming the third installment of Star Trek is going. You’re on a break here from shooting in Vancouver, but those Spock brows are still intense.
Yeah, I know. I used to be much more self-conscious about that. I used to wear glasses if I was going out or doing press, but now I just sort of let it go. Now that Leonard Nimoy isn’t with us anymore, I feel like carrying the torch fully for the role is important.

Tell me about your relationship with Leonard. You met at ComicCon in 2007, and he was immediately inspired and handpicked you to be the next Spock?
Yeah, I mean director JJ Abrams was a little concerned, obviously, with honoring the history of the franchise, and because Leonard was involved in the first movie, he participated in the process. To my knowledge, I was the only person who auditioned for the role.

Then your friendship with Nimoy evolved...
It was something where he saw some of my work and thought that I was a good pick. Then we met, and our relationship took on a life of its own and we became close. I became close with his wife and his family. Losing him has been really hard, but also in a way beautiful. To be with someone, to experience someone at the end of his life, and to have that life be so well lived and fulfilled, he really left this earth just surrounded by love. I’m not afraid of exploring stuff like death and what life adds up to in the end, so he was a shining example of how to do it right. I feel now like my connection with him is just on a deeper level. It’s much more spiritual.

Does Leonard’s being gone affect how you play Spock?
I have felt very embraced by fans, and people seem to be on board with what I’m bringing to the role. Some of my favorite moments in this film for Spock are some of the quietest and most intimate ones. In the big, huge landscape of action, of fighting, there’s some real depth in these quieter moments that I’m looking forward to bringing to this process, so that’s cool.

Thoughts about the last bit?

To be honest it says nothing in particular because he has quiet/more intimate moments in the first two movies too, still it's interesting. I tend to consider that kind of moments (yes, including the scenes with uhura) more in tune with the original character and a younger version of nimoy's spock (with a bit more dramatic baggage to carry) than the moments where he fights and is in rage (tho I don't dismiss those as 'ooc' because I actually see them as an interesting take on his vulcan side)
I wonder if Spock gets injured and thus ZQ is referring to that..but then I remember that JJ is still involved and somehow I doubt ZQ would post that picture over instagram (and lastly John Cho the vulcan blood) if that can possibly hint an important part of the plot. So I try to not read too much into it. It's fun to speculate :)

^ Note that Quinto is fully eyebrow'd in the pic accompanying the article. Did the mag insist on drawing on the eyebrows, or were the photos taken much earlier?

My impression is that this production is less secretive than JJ's versions. If there are big buckets of Vulcan blood on set then Spock probably does get injured as part of the plot - but don't worry, I'm pretty sure he won't die!

I'm not sure how much to read into "the big, huge landscape of action, of fighting". Is he referring to a literal landscape? We've seen pics of some of the large outdoor sets and locations. Is Quinto implying there will be large ground battles on the alien planet? Perhaps our heroes get caught in a war over salvaged Starfleet tech?

It IS fun to speculate!

They can't be all that old, but those photographs definitely weren't shot in the Hamptons, where the interview was apparently conducted (no mountains like that on Long Island.)

I'll guess that the pics are from a fashion shoot which took place a short while before Quinto headed to Vancouver to begin filming for STB, and that they were provided to the magazine as part of the interview arrangement. The photographer credited has a phone number with a Los Angeles area code.

I assume they make more than they need for a scene. Enough for retakes, stunt doubles and what have you.

They painted Benedict Cucumber's character as complex and innovative too so..yeah.
A villain is a villain anyway. The only twist for me would be if he is not really the bad guy in the end. I'd love it if the actual villain is Boutella's character.
I bet Idris is having fun playing a different character from his usual ones, though.

My guess is that Elba's character is an alien because he is implying he spends a lot of time on set (probably for make up) and his costume is complex. He made a comment over twitter where he was super excited about it.

I'm a fan of those legendary eyebrows of his  the ones from the article look photoshoped to me

If he gets injured then we might suspect why he interacts with Mccoy

And as usual the comments are hilariously depressing... :wtf:

"This movie [which hasn't been made yet] totally sucks!"

"I wanna go back to 1986!"

Glad Idris is enjoying what I guess for him is an unusual role.

Chernobyl breaks down, 'Challenger' explodes, Reagan sells arms to the US enemies, it's the middle of the Troubles, and shoulder pads are fucking everywhere...

But so long as there's a Star Trek movie they like!

maybe he'll be a rogue starship Captain. That hasn't been done before in the movies (well apart from Admiral Cartwright, Dougherty, and Marcus but they were all Admirals not starship Captains and weren't the main villains).
