Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

It seems that Paramount is a bad situation for Summer 2016. 20th Century Fox, Disney, and Warner Brothers have solid franchises. They are making money from these franchises. They have exciting films coming up. They are hyping their films to the kazoo. I heard someone at YouTube list the movies for this summer. Star Trek: Beyond was almost not mentioned, as the person had forgotten it was coming out.

I do not know if the next Star Trek film will be good. I have heard of films having minimal hype and becoming sleeper hits. Usually, though, it is small pictures. Not one of the franchise films. So, I have my fingers crossed. The consensus so far seems to be that this is a bad omen. Here's for praying and hoping.

One thing to mention too, is that Lin and Pegg have both said that the production process for this movie is rather short compared to most films like this. The delay in marketing could be just them allowing the filmmakers time to get enough finished material for promotion. It doesn't mean anyone is panicked, just that their schedule may be slightly offset compared the usual. Couple that with the crowded early summer slate of films, they may just be biding their time to get get everything ready to use. The movie is at the END of July. I guarantee the hang wringing going on will stop the moment a second trailer hits, and their ernest promotion of the movie begins.

I laugh so hard at the comments of the movie being delayed or canceled. Paramount just invested a ton of money into this and used one of their current marquee directors. They aren't just gonna forget about it, or set it up to fail.

Orci says will try to get his Trek3 turned into a novel or comic :

Actually I liked STID way more than 2009, and would rate it as one of the better Star Trek movies. Top 3 or 4. And most of all, it is a Star Trek movie. Not an action movie disguised as a Star Trek movie. It takes up typical Trek issues, and I haven’t seen such a beautiful depiction of the Prime Directive, ever.

Now that doesn’t mean it wasn’t flawed, many things went wrong in the movie. I mostly attribute them to Lindelof and Kurtzman, so I would have loved to see Orci freed of them. It’s a shame we’ll never see that movie… but maybe the script could be leaked? I’m dying to find out what could have been. Bob? Please?

How about turning it into a comic book?

That might be good, too!

Well he does work with the comic people somewhat, so it might be easier to do it there. Especially seeing as IDW did the adaptation of the original idea for City on the Edge of Forever.

It was a good trailer. Just because some backwards thinking trekkies don't like it doesn't mean its not good.
I can only make sense of this when I read it as sarcasm.

The first trailer was great.

People are anxious for another and wondering when they'll release it? Awesome.
People are always anxious after bad sex to get back to the good sex. I'm sure it was great for you.

You hate to see them throwing good money after bad with all of this. What with the movie being such an unmitigated disaster.

Yes, because we had a couple reshoots, which every major film goes through, and because we haven't gotten a second trailer yet, the film is an unmitigated disaster. Glad we're not committing to hyperbole here.

The trailer was just fine. And wheeled vehicles are just fine. If wheels are good enough for NASA, they're good enough for Starfleet.

Though maybe they should have used current music instead of something more than twenty years old. The '90s are so passé. ;)

It can be, but not in Nemesis.
Mad Max is science fiction.
LMAO.

Just about everything is science fiction nowadays.

There's no fact in your opinion whatsoever. At least my opinion is supported by an award nomination. :techman: Lots of people liked the trailer and apparently people in the industry did too.
Just as I can say lots of people hated the trailer and apparently people in the industry did too (namely Simon Pegg, the freaking co-writer and chief engineer in the film!).

There's no consensus. It was a mixed trailer and people have reason to be wary/worried with the lack of news and the overall weirdness like what happened (or better yet, what DIDN'T happen) at CinemaCon.

Well, think about it. They have all these people talking about the movie now and they haven't done anything.
If you want to see how badly people want something, see how they react when they don't get it.

I'd rather not know what was Orci's story, especially if I end up disliking star trek beyond and somehow his story seems better. (but then if it was bad, I'd feel disappointed over the fact that the original team - or one of them anyway - had wanted to end the trilogy so badly)

I just wish this movie came out already because I'm sick of being worried about it.

Again, I can only make sense of thumbtack's post by reading it as sarcasm. Maybe it really was?

How is a film set in a post apocalyptic wasteland not Science Fiction? The original was SF too and that was made decades ago. I thought so then and still do. No, just about everything isn't Science Fiction these days. It's a popular genre right now, put there are plenty of non SF films being made.

thumbtack's posts are frequently sarcastic. I think that may be safely assumed to be the case here.

(emphasis mine)

This, on the other hand, is a swipe at other fans, of the sort you're supposed to know better than to take. Knock it off, please.

I'd rather watch ten minutes of motorcycle stunts and explosions than hear the line "Shields are down 40 percent" once, because the former would be more creative and intelligent.
