Star Trek Beyond (STB) Enters Fourth Season!

Sorry Guys-

We've just received word from David Q & it looks like studio is immediately pulling the plug on STB. He just signed a "Conceptual Directors Contract" with a network for another online series & the contract forbids him from working on projects outside of the network or trademarked by another network or production firm.

For now, all of the completed episodes of STB will remain online, but no further work will be done.

It was a good run.

We should consider this thread of STB news closed & no further attempts to answer questions will be made.

Thanks.

*blink*

Wow. Runs for years on its own. Discovered by the rest of fan filmdom in July. Plug pulled August 3.

That's... one hell of a coincidence. I'm going to wait and see what happens here.

quick possible scenario:

internet production in operation for the last two or three years or so first posts on the TrekBBS in the fan film forums.

they also advertise their DVDs on said forum.

now they run the risk of being reported to Paramount - if they have not already been reported - and put every other fan production in jeapordy for said DVDs, because we all pretty much know they would not be free - and if the cost listed at the bottom of their front page applies for their ST:B production as it seems to, then they would deserve to get reported.

shortly afterwards, said production announces they are 'pulling the plug' and give a too-coincidental reason.

I'm just theorizing but I think my targetting scanners are pretty good.

Well, I am not sure if you are talking about the artwork and material sold at the COMIC CONS, or something else. But David Q used to work with Marvel & Image comics during the 1990's and witnessed first hand in San Diego the mess that was being made with copyright infringements; especially when local artists sold posters of the very characters that David created with Jim Lee for $250 ot $400 a shot. Star Trek "likeness" works have been sold for a lot more. Long story short, that is why there was a BIG break up with Image Studios and it's artsist.

But back to STB, the DVD's sets packages will still be made available to fans that want them; at the cost of mailing only. This was done to save the quality of the production, as the current presentation methods through google and MySpace lost all of the crisp avenues of the series.

And as for David being picked up with a contract; he has been in the film business for over 15 years, and as his second career as a film producer, he was not an amateur when he started STB and it certainly wasn't his first attempt behind the camera.

So, there is no inside "shady" information or drama concerning the cancellation of STB. It was a great series and the cast produced a wonderful product. Why make a big deal out of the director getting to move forward?

If you look at the sudden sequence of everything you posted, though, that is bound to make people wonder. The majority of fanfilmage continues by staying off of Paramount/CBS's major copyright radar, so offering DVDs and such tends to put you on the radar.

Ah, I see it now. No worries, and there's no "radar" to worry about.

I may have been a little under-descriptive about the STB DVD's. They are actually DVD/CD ROMs that will only work on computers as video files, not work on DVD players.

Recent requests from fans across Europe, Australia, and the Middle East have asked for clear video files of the STB series; there have been few requests in the U.S. about obtaining crisp video copies. David just wanted to make sure his @$$ was covered about mailing DVDs out to people without having to shell out the tremendous costs out of his own pocket. The studio cleared the release of the "no-cost" DVDs through an entertainment lawyer out of Boston, MA who will regulate the postage costs. No money has ever been made from the STB series.

The studio does have experience in producing & offering top quality DVDs for other films & series to fans produced by the studio under legal contracts & obligations through google & Lionsgate Distribution, but STB has not been part of that program; a note made clear by Paramounts letter to the studio.

Ah. Gotcha. That clears things up significantly.

Shame about the show ending just as we heard about it, though. Will there be an announcement at StoneWater's site?

Wanted to let you guys know that David Q [the Producer & Director] made a statement about the show's cancellation, and there is currently some negotiating being done by the network that hired him, to hold up his contract and produce the (2) episodes that were started and never completed!

You can go to the site here: http://stonewaterproductions.googlepages.com

Grace B. Sends!
