Spoilers Star Trek Beyond references

Is Yorktown a diplomatic hub? Or just a location that desperately tries to stay away from all diplomacy and other political intrigue, hence being located far away from everything?

Timo Saloniemi
From the mouth of Mr. Pegg himself:
It's a kind of diplomatic hub,” said Pegg. “It's where all the most recent Federation inductees can come and mingle with each other and learn about each other. It's a kind of lovely...”

Probably not. The Finnegan from TOS was Irish, and the one from STB was not.

Or raised in a different country. Compare the two Carol Marcuses. [EDIT: Ah, already covered.]

From the link posted earlier:
"Perhaps best known for his role as a telepathic cop in NBC’s Heroes, actor Greg Grunberg has become something of an Easter Egg for any project involving J.J. Abrams, the two men having grown up as childhood friends. Despite Abrams stepping away from the director’s chair for this instalment, his lucky charm still appears, as Commander Finnegan, a Federation officer on Yorktown. It was a role Grunberg lobbied for himself.

“'I kept getting calls saying, 'what's Greg Grunberg doing?' laughs Lin. 'Finally I said, "he's gonna be in charge of Yorktown". Greg comes in and says "I want to be Finnegan". So we had to look up Finnegan...' As hardcore Trekkies will tell you, Finnegan first appears in
The Original Series as a Starfleet Academy officer, known for his love of tormenting Kirk..."

Complete with prominent rings, too.

I don't know, I got a "every space station from every other show EXCEPT DS9" vibe from that thing. The cityscape especially reminded me more of a cinematic Mass Effect or The Expanse station. The thing it shares with DS9, being a space station in Star Trek, may equally be on homage to the station in Trouble with Tribbles. As in, I bet they weren't thought of once when coming up with the concept.

This is from the Enterprise docking sequence. I wonder if it's the Kelvin timeline version of the Stargazer? It looks like the Armstrong-type from ST'09/ID but with blue nacelle caps and extra pylons connecting to the middle nacelle.

It could well be, I saw it in the trailer and movie, but we never see anything more of the hull.

I was hoping for a Constellation that followed the same design ethic as the new ships but okay. There's an Armstrong with a registry of 1797 in the first movie that looks like it's been around a while, the Aegis registry is nearly 2000, so ships of a near or over 2000 exist prior to the Enterprise.

That's pretty much the starbase that you see orbiting Earth in '09/ID.
Pretty much yeh, but I am thinking the idea of a "real" city in a space station which can also hold Starships.

I always imagined something like from the FJ manual inside the dome just there is no internal docking bay.

Maybe that is the ship that passes behind the Ent during the ending montage.

Wow, I believe you caught a glimpse of the E-A there! Nice find!! That little circle to the immediate lower left saucer is not part of the ship.

Am I the only person who can't see anything here?

There's an Armstrong right there behind her nacelle, saw it at the cinema but the screencap is pretty clear.

Am I the only one who noticed the Enterprise-A has almost double the phaser armament of the original? The upper saucer alone has six dual banks compared to the original 3.

So what will the E-A have up her sleeve for any kind of swarm attacks? Phaser drones!

Nice catch! Yes, it does look like the Armstrong type. It appears to be white, and following the new/old Enterprise paint scheme.

Has anybody placed that satellite thingy that zooms by in the credits? I swear it looks like an old studio logo or something, but can't place it.
