Starbase 74 is one of 6 known "Space Dock" stations in the Federation. With a diameter of 3.8 kilometers, and a height of 5.5 kilometers, it is among the largest of the Space Stations available to starships and other Federation craft.

Of the 84 original passengers Kirk sent down to Ceti Alpha V (in the TOS episode, "Space Seed") we learn later that 72 of them survived, 30 of them women.

As with HIjol's post above about "Space Seed", in Star Trek Into Darkness' alternate reality, 72 of Khan's crew survived. They were smuggled out of Section 31 by Khan, in the long-range torpedoes delivered to the USS Enterprise.

In '68', girl with the initials "F.C." wrote a letter to "Spock", printed in the magazine FaVE. F.C. wrote that she was "...half white and half black, and that she felt like an outcast because of it. She ended the letter by saying "I guess I'll never have any friends."
