Hmmm...

The good:

I like forests

The bad:

The sound is once again very uneven, with background noises very loud and grating, and conversations difficult to make out at times, especially outside.

The acting is just as uneven and uninspired, in particular Fra-oc reminds me of a hamster on amphetamines: twitchy, hyper, and just as distracting.

The story reminds me of an indiana jones type adventure, and i vaguely recall something along similar lines in the tv series Andromeda, or any other serial.

The ugly:

The absence of Capt. Quest, the doctor, and others from this episode, and indeed the production itself, makes this episode look like the outing of the B-stringers.

Postmortem:

It is not without good reason that many shows in the professional industry do not survive the departure of their principal character and actor/actress, and STB falls neatly into that trap, the departure of Capt. Quest and the release of the actress who played her, Bernice Tremblay, among others takes away much from their production. And in the end -although the cast and crew undoubtably work hard and enjoy what they do - the fact remains that the real story and characters that made the production interesting ended with the last episode, and so too should have the production.

Final Grade: F

Interesting review Dmonix'.

Eloquently delivered, with so much for me to look forward to improving on.

Hey guys!

The studio reports that Episode 20 is almost complete. The cast & crew will be in the studio tonight & they plan on completing the final scenes to close of the two part episode to Ancient Relics!

The studio also reports that the collaboration with MeezMeyer Studios will commence filming this weekend in Westerly, RI. If all goes well, the sequences to the last episode in the series will be shot over 6 hours of work.

On a side note, the studio got a little heckled by the EPA over shooting the series. Has anyone that produces fan films had an issue with them lately?

I'll keep you updated as much as I can.

Are you talking about the Environmental Protection Agency ?

If so, what beef did they have ?

It could just be a local thing, but David reported that the EPA was intervening in the studios production efforts recently. The matter is closed now, but there was some concern that was raised - Grace B.

Hey guys!

Another report from the studio has STB Episode 20 being completed today (9.16.08)! It is set for posting tomorrow night after 6pm U.S. (EST) if all goes well with todays shoot.

More news released from the studio reports that STB's last episode will be a cross over with the timeline of STNG!!!! There is plenty of information on the studios website shelling out information about a collaboration with Meezmeyer Productions which is also out of Connecticut! Lots of details, uniforms, and props are supposed to be covered in Episode 21.

Be sure to check out the news at http://stonewaterproductions.googlepages.com

STB episode 20 will post next Wednesday!!!

Episode 20:

The Good: It's the last we see of Fra-Oc...

The Bad: It took us 45 minutes to get there...

The Ugly: Well, if you count the fact that by the end Fra-Oc kinda looks like she got ran over like a targ herd...twice.

Postmortem: Not much has changed from the first part of this two-parter, and all the same criticisms still apply, which reinforces the opinion that STB should probably have ended at Episode 18, instead of dragging it out.

Final grade: F

Episode 21:

Time travel, dimensional rifts, black holes, Starfleet, plot holes that you could fly a Galaxy Class through, and the end of STB.

I'm not going to do a fast and dirty review of this episode per se, but rather say this about the end of Star Trek Beyond.

While it will never rank among my favorite Trek fan series, one has to applaud the cast and crew who put their hard work into this particular fan series, it is easy for one to sit back and be an observer to the finished process and then comment on it for good or for ill, but it is so much harder to pull together the resources, time, and people to create a production, and while STB may have had flaws - and there were many - in the end it is still the culmination of the efforts of a group of people who set forth to accomplish a goal, to bring a production to life - and in this they succeeded.

Kudos.
