Amazon is offering J.J. Abrams' 'Star Trek' in an exclusive limited-edition gift set containing a "screen-accurate" 8.5-inch replica of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, modeled directly from the digital-effects files used in the making of the movie. Note this figure isn't cheap plastic, but rather solid metal.

The set comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by Roger Guyett (Special effects supervisor, Industrial Light & Magic), and Andy Gore (President & CEO, Quantum Mechanix Inc.).

^ I agree. It is just too expensive. I will be buying my copy at WalMart for a more reasonable price.

EDIT: Not true, my brother is giving me the movie for Christmas. I have no idea where he will buy it.

Not to start trouble, but I'm guessing they don't tell you what scale the model is. That would end alot of discussion here at TrekBBS and over at Trekmovie

Who know, it could be on the Cert. of Authenticity since this model is by the same company doing that massive, super-detailed one that they showed off at Comic-Con.

$90 bucks is quite a bit for any movie, even with the limited collectable - but that is just TOO FREAKIN' SWEET! The 3 disk set PLUS a ship?! Which is super detailed? Damn... a part of me really really really wants this, and a part of me is going "C'mon Nick... that's more than you'd probably want to play for the damn BluRay player!"

Now if someone got this for me for Christmas... that'd be a wholly different story!

To pricey... Put it at a decent price and I'm sure they would fly off the shelf.

Wow, thats pretty expensive. I would like to get that but I'm not sure. I just to wait and see, I might just buy the movie at stores.

Just some info about another dvd set for star trek..The german site for amazon is selling an exclusive Enterprise as well.. The one on they are selling is cool too. The saucer section of the Enterprise is where the dvds are stored.

Yep, there was a thread about it here.

Keep in mind, the Enterprise Statuette alone isn't $90. That's the total price. The 3-disk blu-ray set alone on Amazon is $28. So that means that the statuette is about $68. Considering that at the Las Vegas convention, my wife and I bought a Hallmark TOS enterprise (collectible) for $50, $68 doesn't seem all that out of line for a well made statuette.

Some fans will by dog turds if you slap "Star Trek Collectible" on it. I won't, but many will.

If I had the money I'd buy it. Is this for preorder?

I saw that one version of the BD comes with metallic looking insignia. That's a tough choice for me between the insignia for a lot less or the ship. Though no scale is listed, it does say it's 8.5", which about the same size as many of the Franklin Mint pewter ships from the 80's and 90's. I've got the perfect spot on a shelf in my office right next to my Stargazer.

The one with the screen-accurate 4 uniform pin replicas is a Best-Buy exclusive, I believe.

I'd get that one, but for the fact that I'm still on DVD, and cannot justify the budget outlay.
