TrekMovie.com has an article on the Barbie figures, which gives a better look at the props. The tricorder looks roughly like the movie era prop, the communicator looks a little better here than in the glass case, and the phaser looks pretty cool.

If you look at the tricorder screen it almost looks like an LCARS readout with a different color scheme.
I like what I see, taking into account that these are just Barbie toys we are seeing here.

I'm liking the accessories a lot. I'm also impressed by the Barbies, which will be a bit too pricey for my tastes.
The modernized tricorder and communicator share the black circle (screen?) element, and the same textures. Taken as a pair, I like them much more than when the communicator prop was pictured next to McCoy's wand. I'm liking the look of these. And the paser looks more or less like the TOS one, albeit with some sort of new casing on the top (which is why I guess some said it was a cross between TOS and TUC phasers). Lookin' cool.

Spock looks gay. I don't know how to say it any better. He looks fey. Elfin. Effeminate. He looks doll-like, even by the standards of dolls.
The Uhura doll looks pretty great. If I had a daughter, Uhura would be beaming into her toy chest straightaway.

Two different issues.
It doesn't look a lot like the original, but that's not important. It looks good.
Sadly, I agree that the Barbie dolls actually look better than the Playmates figure we saw the other day. I really hope their 3" line is better.
The Phaser is interesting. It reminds me a lot of the TMP Phaser design but with the "pistol end" seen in TOS mixed in there. The Tricorder is probably the most like its predecessor but I'm liking the design of the communicator the most.

The phaser retains the signature profile feature of the handle being way forward - halfway or more toward the front of the weapon.
If these people were just trying to make the weapons look badass and dangerous, that's the first thing they'd throw away - make them look like real guns.

I'm not normally a Barbie fan but I must agree that Uhura doll worked out really well.
