Star Trek: Aurora Part 4 Available

Auroratrek

Just a quick note to let people know that Part 4 of Star Trek: Aurora is now online:

Also, even if you've already watched the earlier parts, I urge you to check them out again as I've added a few touches--including a small but significant clarification in Part 2--as well as theme music that was written for Aurora by musician John Catney, and that I think really enhances the story.

Fantastic! I love your take on the franchise. Can't wait for the conclusion. I really hope you plan to continue with more stories!

The only complaint I can think of is...wish there was a ship specific insignia for the Yorktown. Aside from that relatively small and insignificant nugget, it was very good.

Thank you so much for this wonderful, mid-winter sunshine! (OK, the Aussies, South Asians, and South Americans have to thank you for mid-summer sunshine...)

Excellent work Tim. I'm really trying to give "critical" feedback but can't find anything to be critical about.
Nice to hear David Ault in there as well.

Great work! You keep getting better and better - can't imagine what the next one will look like! :bolian:

Fantastic work as usual! In fact, this may be the most interesting segment yet! I really, really appreciate all the hard work you put into this. It is incredible.

SPOILERS?

I was a bit disappointed at the whole alternative universe twist, to be honest. Not every Star Trek story has to involve time travel/alternate universes, and it's starting to become very tired.

I also think you should drop the "Spock voice" for your T'VulcanGirl character. It's cliche and silly.

The cannibalism story was a pleasant surprise.

Aurora rocks! The fact that one of the main characters is a gorgeous redhead is icing on the cake.

Keep up the good work Tim et al!

Oh now that's just cruel, giving us only the first half of part 4! But it looks great!!

Edited to add: I'm trying to figure out what you changed besides the new establishing F/X shot at the start of the second act (which looks great too!). Is the guitar theme extended longer at the start of act 1?

Edited to add #2: Whups, never mind... now I see it. Hrm... you know, I think I preferred the original version of Act 2. It's not that the new soundtrack is poorly done (it's actually quite nice), it's more of a personal preference--the lack of a background soundtrack in the first version makes the whole flashback sequence more starkly dramatic (to me, at least). Also (and again, strictly personal preference), I preferred not knowing the explicit details about you-know-what; in this particular case, less is more. I'm going to trust there's a specific reason that you didn't want the audience imagination to run amok (e.g., an as-yet-unrevealed plot point in the second half of Act 4 that ties into this new revelation).

Thanks, all, for the feedback!

To your point, DestinyCaptain, I considered trying to find/create a Yorktown badge, but, where this is set in the 2270s, it was a little bit of a grey area as Starfleet was changing over to everyone having the Enterprise-style insignia, which allowed me to be lazy. ;-)

Professor Moriarty, the amount of changes kind of depends: I didn't change a lot in this last round beyond the music and some little tweaks, but I got an email the other day from somebody who hadn't seen Part 1 since its first iteration, and for him things had changed a lot.

I went back and forth on the you-know-what, but the reason is just as you suggest--I mean, we're Trek fans: our imaginations always run amok!

It's a minor thing really; it certainly didn't detract from my enjoyment watching the whole episode again from the beginning. But now I really can't wait to see how it ends!

Perhaps Aurora takes place in the same universe as Court Martial.

;)

I went back and watched Parts 1-4 together. This is still one of the most impressive productions I've seen in a while. I really captures the spirit of Trek.

Good stuff! Amongst the best fan productions on the net right now.

In regards to part 4 and this is a minor thing but it might help the episode to cut back on the technobabble a tad.

An even more nitpicky thing, in an earlier episode (2 maybe?) you have next gen tricorder sounds in the flashback. It's a little thing really but it distracted me when viewing the scene.

In regards the revelation, I was hesitant about it when I watched your film the first time around. Now that you have added some detail I think I prefer the original less detailed explanation-it leaves more to the imagination.
