A resurrection of a thread I posted at the end of "Enterprise": I wonder if it's possible to associate the ups and downs of Star Trek history by who was president at the time. Consider:
- Johnson: "The Cage", plus the first 2 and a half seasons of TOS (a hopeful beginning)
- Nixon: Final half-season of TOS (a crappy ending)
- Ford: TAS (unmemorable)
- Carter: TMP (a crappy re-beginning, but hopeful continuation)
- Reagan: TOS movies 2, 3 and 4; TNG's first season and a half (very hopeful and productive continuations)
- Bush Senior: TOS movies 5 and 6; TNG season 2 midpoint through season 6 midpoint (same as above)
- Clinton: Final season and a half of TNG; TNG movies 7, 8 and 9; the entire run of DS9; the first 6 and a half seasons of Voyager (talk about productivity! But the beginning of a declining period)
- Bush Junior: The final half-season of Voyager; Nemesis; the entire run of Enterprise (the re-end of an era)
- And now Obama: Star Trek Recast. (Is this change we can believe in?)
