Star Trek: An Obsession

Does anyone have a Star Trek moment that invades your daily, routine lives?

I'll give you an example: anytime I'm backing out my car in a complicated parking situation, I think of the Stealing of the Enterprise segment and feel like Sulu or Scotty piloting the Enterprise out of Spacedock.

And I can hear: "Warning: Secure Spacedoors. Danger: Spacedoors are closed." All while James Horner's soundtrack is in my mental background.

To this day, I can't be in a complicated parking situation without thinking of this scene.

I'll give you another one, but this one was from my childhood:

When I was a kid, I used to throw toilet paper in the toilet and then would pretend my urine was phaser fire shooting at the "Klingon battle cruiser".

Crazy shit, huh?

Nope, I'm pretty normal.

Well, I have been known to fire a hand phaser at people I don't like... hoping they will disappear.

Occasionally if I'm in particularly bad traffic. I'll say to myself "Fire torpedoes."

Doesn't ever work though.

I can honestly say that if you could hook up some kind of "Spock's Brain" thing on me, you would record multiple examples of lines, references, scenes, situations, etc. each and every day. Star Trek is in my mitochondria.

Once in a great while, I'll catch myself humming a STAR TREK movie theme - usually those representing the Klingons, from 1 and 3. I'll forget, though, where it came from, at first. And then, I'm all like, "that's from STAR TREK! Stop thinking about that goofy shit and hum a REAL tune!"

:rommie: >>SNORT!!!<<

^^. "Okay, so the scariest environment imaginable. Thanks. That's all you gotta say, scariest environment imaginable."

Don't you EVER stop hearing the music! 'Frakes!

Ever!

I've definitely had the ST3 space dock theme get stuck in my head while backing.

While on a DS9 kick a few years back, I spent a few weeks thinking (and occasionally saying out loud) that "It's vile!" every time I had a glass of root beer.

As much as I've ever been fascinated with Star Trek I have very rarely thought of something in my life in terms of relating it to Trek.

Yes, just about every day in almost any circumstance. For example I was watching the new Godzilla today.

What I was seeing..., Godzilla breathing fire down that monsters throat.

What I said out loud..., I, have had enough, of you!

Well let's see...

There's the way my wife and I will sit in our truck, tap our chests and call for beam in to the house and then decry the lack of transporter technology requiring us to use our feet, (Have I told you about my feet? My investigating feet?).

Then there's how the phrase, "Kirk on a mountain top boot stomping a Klingon time." is our shorthand for a person or situation that we are past tired of.

And any piece of tech that is needlessly over complicated is referred to as a violation of "Scotty's first law of engineering".

No worries! Music's alive ... and it's kickin' ... inside of Me! Ever since I discovered that one of the Fish Head Aliens in TNG had a famous band, back in the day - FLEETWOOD MAC, in this case - the STAR TREK/real music connection was made. And it took True Root™, HIjol. No sampling, though! Shocking, I know. Instead, I've gone Back to Basics by continuing to learn to play guitar better. Bass. Some keyboards and the like. Sheet Music is like a Second Language to me. Perhaps I will post videos of myself, shaking my ass onstage, one day, with women screaming my name, wanting to Feed & Water My Seed ... In the meantime, you have my assurances, sir: I won't EVER stop "hearing the music."

Whenever I go through an automatic door I either blow on it or wave my hand like Riley. Every time.

And my wife likes to call me Captain. :) I swear it was her idea.

Daily. My ringtone is the TOS theme. My alarm is the TOS end credits theme. My SMS is the doorbell in TNG. And my office computer has a Star Trek sound theme.

Whenever I drink tea I think "tea, earl grey, hot".

Back when I was running movie theatres, on opening night of a big movie. When we got the green light from the digital advertising system (which made the show always late btw). While standing next to the projector, I'd tell the Projectionist "Engage!" to start the show.
Particularly fun if it was a Star Trek movie.

Me too for my cellphone. Phone call is the ST bosun's whistle, text message is the chirps the TOS communicator makes when flipped open, email to my synched work Outlook is the "incoming message" double-beep of the communicator. timer alarm is one of the bridge scanner SFXs.

My text sound is Uhura saying: "Captain Kirk, message from Starfleet Command. Top Priority."

:techman:
