Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worldwide

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

I've got at least 6 non-Trek fans scheduled to go to see Trek on Sunday night with me. And I am going out tonight to catch it in IMAX. I checked the Raleigh, NC IMAX showtimes and the 7:30 pm show is already sold out. So off to the 10:00 pm show for me! :)

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

On word of mouth: I'm willing to be there is a contingent who saw the trailers and thought the movie "looked cool" but weren't sure because of either the Trek label or other sci-fi spaced based movie worries. Hearing from so many people that it is as good as it looks will hopefully continue to tip the scales toward block buster.

The curiosity factor will be high... as a kite...

A&D still at Wolverine RT levels.

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

It strikes me that word of mouth indeed is in large part coming from the fan base. I congratulate you all on maintaining a veneer of normality about you...

Mmm... pretty impressive isn't it!

Keep spreading the good word, people - in a normal, rational, not at all obsessed way :)

Got my ticket for my second showing in my back pocket, for tonight!

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

The Thursday final number for Star Trek's domestic box office is $5,608,298, bringing the total estimate to $104,610,837. This represents an 3% drop from Wednesday. This is a great number since most films experience a larger decline on Thursday.

This is much better than the 18.9% drop Batman Begins experienced on its second Thursday (down to $4.475 million) and the 7.3% drop Iron Man had (down to $5.33 million). Also, Wolverine dropped 13.5% on its first Thursday, but also had the evening opening of Trek.

While it's interesting to see Trek's numbers each day, am I the only one that doesn't give a rat's ass about how it compares to Batman Begins, Iron Man or Wolverine, each and every day? :wtf:

They're the best predictors of how Trek will ultimately do. That's why it's interesting.

It is possible that you are the only one.:vulcan:
We only get to talk about this once every few years (long time since the last one). :p

For some reasin I couldn't get the link for E-Online uber blog to work  but anyway heres one I just read...

Yahoo

A little snippet

Dergarabedian figures Trek will gross around about $37.5 million Friday-Sunday, roughly half of its debut-weekend haul. (By comparison, ticket sales for X-Men Origin: Wolverine plunged nearly 70 percent in its second weekend.)

cheers but won't work keep getting a "Redirection limit for this URL exceeded" error. I'll be able to see it when am on a better PC like the one upstairs  this one blows.

If we follow ST pattern of beating estimates we could well do 40+ though I think A&D will beat us but I do think we stand a good chance of beating A&D in weekend 3 because there drop from a small opening of 45=55 million could be lower than our 3rd weekend total.

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

I'm about to head out to the IMAX theater in a few minutes for more Trek.

Let's give this movie LEGSSSSSSSSSSS.

Ay, captain. She's got legs, and she knows how to use them.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

Where do you get those figures? Box Office Mojo says $141,769,261.00 as of Wednesday (including Wednesday). 5.63 million on Thursday would take it to a little over 147,000,000.00. And don't forget, a film needs to make about twice it's production budget to break even as the production budget does not include film prints, advertising, etc.
It'll be a killer on DVD though! :p

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

Star Trek isn't about starships being built on earth or starship registry numbers that begin with zero. If none of those horrible and blatantly obvious errors didn't ruin the entire experience for you, then you're just not worth talking to anymore.

Since neither of those things "ruined" the film for me and I actually enjoyed it, please, stay true to your word and never speak to me again.
