Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worldwide

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

I think the "been talked into it" contingent will be pretty big, especially if they've had their arm twisted by non-uniform-and-pointy-ear-wearing folks.

Like "yeah, go see it, it's pretty good" kind of stuff.

100 out of 161 rotten reviews for A&D.

Your Trek-Fu is impressive!
I talked a whole family (2 of my students + parents) into seeing it. They are neophytes and were delighted!

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

LOLZ! And we will only capitalize our assets with a new movie!
Get back to work, dammit!

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

How much do you think it'll make this weekend?

I'm thinking $29 million.....and that's being pessimistic.

The estimates are anywhere from $37 million to close to $50 million. I'd be happy with $42 million.

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

I'm still working on my Trek-fu, but in the next two weeks, I will travel this strange country and drag some old friends into different cinemas, driven by the sole purpose of making them watch Trek with me. After all, they promised me a year ago.... okay they didn't know I would actually be in Germany when the time came (I certainly didn't), but a promise is a promise is a promise.

:p

I will have 3 with me tomorrow night, and 2 more into next week. :D

We said an inverted pyramid, J.! Dammit!

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

Most of them are German, so to the dubbed one, I guess.

I've seen both. I have to tell you I like the English one better, but after watching it four times I hardly notice the words I don't understand anymore.

When I first went to a German dubbed film a few years back, boy, that was interesting. Try reading people's lips while they're coughing up an alien language. :D

My German's advanced over the years though, I like to think.

It strikes me that word of mouth indeed is in large part coming from the fan base. I congratulate you all on maintaining a veneer of normality about you...

I'm hoping the Blu-Ray will have all dubbed languages on it, but I doubt it...

If you veer off a few km away from your initial destination and end up in Luxembourg you could definitely see the movie in English dub with ze German subs. Oi! Best of both worlds!!11!!

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

I like that on the DS9 dvds. I used to watch them in German for vocabulary training, although I hated the voices, especially Kira's. The German version of Star Trek (XI) though is pretty good, if not perfect.

Mutenroshi: Yeah, that would be the perfect solution. It's always hard readjusting my brain to all those cases and articles and finite verbs in the weirdest positions.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

This just goes to show how many truly stupid people there are in the world, which does not bode well for the future of humanity. This movie represents nothing about Star Trek and the mindless sheep are eating it up left and right.

Where's Gary Mitchell? Where's Finnegan? Those are two of the most important characters in Trek history -- perhaps even more important than Sulu or Chekov -- so it just pisses me off how they were tossed aside here. Everyone knows who they are, so why not include them?

Star Trek isn't about starships being built on earth or starship registry numbers that begin with zero. If none of those horrible and blatantly obvious errors didn't ruin the entire experience for you, then you're just not worth talking to anymore.

You put Cawley's Star Trek in movie theaters to show everyone what true Trek is. And the dozens of dollars his work will rake in at the box office will show you just who the real Trek fans are!

Jesus, for a moment there I thought you were serious. Don't ever write an opening paragraph like that again.

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

^I remember that time! When I could only watch Star Trek (esp TNG and DS9) on Sat1... Had to wait until 97 to watch Trek on French TV...

Had I not read the entire post, I would've replied.

Moooo.... Mooooo....

Thank goodness for limited interpretive skills.

At this point, with the thursday number. I think this thing will clear 45 million +

I think disappointment would be 35 million.

Re: Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million World

Okay my French is even worse! Your German's probably better than mine anyway. Writing it isn't the problem, you can edit and re-write for an hour. Following a fast-paced dialogue is a different matter entirely.
