Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worldwide

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

Got to tell the truth here and confess to being a bit disappointed that the figures for Thursday weren't higher.

I'm just hoping there's pent-up demand for the weekend by those people who haven't seen it yet, are being drawn to it by word of mouth, and plain old cash-spending die-hard fans, the more aged ones for IMAX.

I myself might head to the City this Sunday with my son to see it in that format.

I definitely recommend that you go. The movie is amazing in IMAX.

This is a good number. Thursdays should show little to no bounce or a gain. I will take this as a good sign.

There's hope for you yet!

The good news keeps coming. And with that, I'm off to catch an afternoon showing to help bolster the second weekend returns. Have a good weekend, everybody!

Seconded. I saw it on IMAX yesterday and the film looks amazing. The showing was also sold out, so hopefully Lumen is right and the IMAX screens will prop up Trek to a small degree over the weekend.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

This weekend is the last of the IMAX shows, right? Maybe that will contribute to keeping the drop down.

Wait, this is the last week for IMAX? That seemed a bit short.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

Where do you get those figures? Box Office Mojo says $141,769,261.00 as of Wednesday (including Wednesday). 5.63 million on Thursday would take it to a little over 147,000,000.00. And don't forget, a film needs to make about twice it's production budget to break even as the production budget does not include film prints, advertising, etc.

I doubt that many people under the age of 25 care about A&D. Someone posted the online ticket sales, and Trek is ahead by some distance - which indicates that the younger audience are planning to see it, since they're more likely to order online.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

With those numbers I think a $47-50 million dollar weekend is very, very do-able. Fanfrickintastic!

Yancy

Yup. ST is having better legs than expected!. I think I way undersold this movie at 38-40 million, I think it has a outside shot at 50 Million! Although thinking about it, 44 million would be rocking.

It could help that reviews for Angels and Demons are so bad. Only 33 percent fresh among RT top critics, 40 percent overall. The Washington Post trashed it, this morning. Among those who may have been considering flipping a coin over which movie to see this weekend, that may lean things in Trek's favor a bit.

And, Tim Cowilshaw of The Dallas Morning News gave shout out to the movie at the beginning of ESPN's "Around the Horn", yesterday. When he was introduced, he raised his right hand in the Vulcan salute and said how he was excited that he was going to see the new Star Trek movie this weekend. Only around 750,000 viewers watch that show, but I have a feeling most of the viewers are in the demographic Trek is trying to get. Hey, every bit helps.

I knew going to see it a second time would help bump those figures up....no need to thank me.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

I went to see it last Sunday, The cinema seats filling up gradually but suddenly there was a surge lucking I had gotten there earlier as but as people were still coming by the start of the film. By my estimates there were only 20 seats left in a 200 seater screen. I had to leave a seat marker so I didn't lose my seat (My drink and my coat, and my packet of Skittles). I haver no doubt the film will make a ton load of money (It will out sell Insurrection and Nemesis and possibly first Contact?) and make a new era of trek happen.

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

This just goes to show how many truly stupid people there are in the world, which does not bode well for the future of humanity. This movie represents nothing about Star Trek and the mindless sheep are eating it up left and right.

Where's Gary Mitchell? Where's Finnegan? Those are two of the most important characters in Trek history -- perhaps even more important than Sulu or Chekov -- so it just pisses me off how they were tossed aside here. Everyone knows who they are, so why not include them?

Star Trek isn't about starships being built on earth or starship registry numbers that begin with zero. If none of those horrible and blatantly obvious errors didn't ruin the entire experience for you, then you're just not worth talking to anymore.

You put Cawley's Star Trek in movie theaters to show everyone what true Trek is. And the dozens of dollars his work will rake in at the box office will show you just who the real Trek fans are!

Wow. Then if at all humanly possible, Sunday it will be. Wonder if I should Fandango the tickets....

It's 46% A&D, 42% ST

Yeah, but that's still a pretty impressive figure for Trek's second week.

Plus, walk-ins welcome! :p

get a ticket for Trek and go watch A&D (and Trek, of course) :p

Re: Star Trek - $5.63 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worlw

If Star Trek follows the second weekend pattern of Wolverine (a 140% Friday increase and a 3.2X weekend multiplier) that would lead to a second weekend of just over $43 million. If it performs better than that it could even have a shot at more than $50 million. I'm expecting mid-40s, which would be stellar. It's on track for a great second weekend.

You're devious. I like that...

What does Night at the Museum have that makes it more watchable in IMAX format, though.... ?
