Star Trek - $5.61 million on Thursday - Crosses $150 Million Worldwide

The Thursday final number for Star Trek's domestic box office is $5,608,298, bringing the total estimate to $104,610,837. This represents an 3% drop from Wednesday. This is a great number since most films experience a larger decline on Thursday.

This is much better than the 18.9% drop Batman Begins experienced on its second Thursday (down to $4.475 million) and the 7.3% drop Iron Man had (down to $5.33 million). Also, Wolverine dropped 13.5% on its first Thursday, but also had the evening opening of Trek.

As for the international box office, it increased $3.45 million Thursday to $49,264,668.

The total worldwide box office is approximately $153.9 million.

This is a good number. Thursdays should show little to no bounce or a gain. I will take this as a good sign.

MASSIVE. Still out performing Iron Man. Its multiplier is definitely tracking at a 3.5

So, it's now made more money than Wolverine had by the same point in its run, despite a stronger start by Wolverine.

Where's that poster who kept holding up Trek's failure to overtake Wolvy as a sign that Trek was not succeeding? Anywhere? Not a peep...no surprise there. :guffaw:

If it keeps IM's legs, it will hit 275!

Star Trek is adding 11 screens this weekend.

With those numbers I think a $47-50 million dollar weekend is very, very do-able. Fanfrickintastic!

Yup. ST is having better legs than expected!. I think I way undersold this movie at 38-40 million, I think it has a outside shot at 50 Million! Although thinking about it, 44 million would be rocking.

anything above 40 million this weekend would be amazing though am thinking 35ish. Against T-4 week after ain't that memorial weekend so most of movies will get a bump off that ?

I do too. I know a lot of people who are going this weekend -- one of them is my boss and his son...... and in no way, shape or form is my boss a Star Trek fan....he was shocked to find out I was .

"Conventional wisdom" is just that, conventional. Last weekend a lot of the professional observers (and some of us here, like Yours Truly) underestimated Trek's opening weekend based on the past performance of the Franchise among other factors. Now that the new conventional wisdom is that this movie is exceeding expectations they're choosing to overestimate this weekend's likely performance. IMAO, of course.

Just be glad T4 didn't open THIS weekend.

Oh, Memorial weekend is the week after T4.

You think this movie will have a 55% drop? Its not really tracking like that at this point (Similiar movies with similiar week day drops)

Realistically I think this weekend's take is going to be in the neighborhood of $42-44 million simply because Trek is a well established franchise and typically you are a little more front-loaded as fans rush out to see it opening weekend.

Iron man had the benefit of good WOM, being a new franchise, and being a second-tier superhero with a much smaller built in fan base; hence the reason Iron Man held up so well.

But this Trek is a different beast; a lot of my oldest daughter's friends were dragged to Trek (against their wishes... they thought Trek was only for geeks) and they LOVED it... they plan to go again. This film appears to have reached across a wider general audience and gotten their attention. So even though I think the film will gross $42-44 million this weekend, I would not be in the least bit surprised if it grossed closer to $50 million.
