Star Trek - $43M 2nd Weekend - Domestic $148M - Global at $218 M

It cost a lot.

Right, but it made a good profit. And, it cost less than the current movie to make (inflation adjusted). The adjusted box office take and budget numbers are:
$241 million - $103 million = an adjust domestic profit of $138 million.

Not bad at all.

Mr Awe

I actually don't know how it ends since I've avoided finding out since I don't have the time to read them (and don't you DARE ruin it for me).

Voldemort and Ron go back in time creating an alternate reality where Harry becomes a full fledged wizard by the age of 12.

Wolverine continues to drop like an adamantium stone.

It's drop this weekend was actually not bad at all and better than most people had expected.

I think the air is slowly coming out of the X-Men franchise. Most of the movies were good or even great...but its day seems to have passed.

Well, the first two were great, and then everything after that has been caused by the meddling of FOX and the stupidity of Tom Rothman.

X3 had the badass fight in San Francisco among the good and evil mutants but that was about it. I never liked the way Xavier was killed off. Sort of ruined much of the film for me.

Yeah, a lot of things ruined the movie for me...Xavier's death, wasted Phoenix potential, Cyclop's death, Rogue giving up her powers, overuse of Magneto and Mystique, etc.

Here in Australia Lost was the number 1 show for its first couple of seasons, and it still quite popular today... I'm pretty sure it would be very well known in most other countries as well. I'm not sure why the movie is not doing too well here, I guess the Star Trek brand is considered fairly geeky and something more American (not to everyone, my family and a few friends of mine love it, but just the general population).
Maybe they don't realize that Abrams is connected with both?

I think that was pretty well written up here that Abrams was going to be the director. For the record, I don't think much of "Lost", to be honest.

The weather is starting to get quite cold now, and the movies are up against the various footballl codes. Mind you if it were Summer, the movies would be up against the Cricket and tennis.

ETA: Tried watching "Heroes"...and could not not get into it.

Well, I guess we're back to square one; what's the difficulty with Trek and the world box office.

My bet is most world audiences expected another Nemesis and hadn't seen J.J. Abrams' LOST.
That interesting kernel has a ring of truth.

Yeah, but Lost's ratings here are about a sixth of what they once were. Obviously a lot of people got fed up with it, so a link ot JJ may not be that much of a positive. It's curious that there was not a single ad for Star Trek during Lost.

To be fair, this film has already made four times what Nemesis and Insurrection made. Also keep in mind that First Contact mader under $5 million in five weeks. That had great reviews and good mainstream publicity. One of the TV networks showed a few of the movies back-to-back, and Ten showed the Patrick Stewart episode of The Simpsons, really playing up its links to the film. We haven't had a single Trek film on TV this time around.

The problem is the rest of the world is filled with "foreigners" and they often make things difficult for Americans. ;)

Hmm, you may be onto something; I went to Europe three times, and it is filled with Europeans.

But I think we want their cash in an un-blowed up state. It spends better.
