Star Trek 4: The Next Generation?

im thinking after Trek3/50th maybe the JJTOS era/cast will be played out (esp the cast) and the next movie could be a nuTNG film (in the JJverse of course) with Picard, Riker etc recast with lookalikes (maybe with Stewart, Frakes in cameos) like ST09, building up to the first mission of the nu JJ EntD (hopefully better then Farpoint - the Borg would be an obvious choice). Could even call it 'Star Trek The Next Generation' (colon or no) as that title hasn't been used for a movie yet (like the way ST09 used 'Star Trek'). Plus use the TNG TV logo (again like the JJ films using TOS logo)

After all a lot of fans who grew up only knowing TNG (when TNG was the dominant Trek brand in the 90s) will be wondering where 'their' crew is in the movies? (that is if ST3 dosnt include some TNG in a Days of Future Past way which is possible)

I don't quite get why people keep bringing this up. The nuUniverse was not created so that they could bring back the TNG cast with different actors. And the current nuTOS cast is hardly "played out." We're not going to see nuTNG, ever.

True, but...

Never? I doubt that. I'm 35 and, even though I don't, most people I know who are my age primarily associate Star Trek with TNG.

I think, eventually, when the most of the Producers and Directors of major blockbusters and films will have been born in the late-'70s and '80s, someone will decide to try rebooting TNG. We're not quite there yet, but we will be in the 2020s.

Right now, the people in charge grew up with the original Star Wars trilogy and the original Star Trek movies, such as the ST II-IV trilogy, before TNG started.

I expect that, if ST3 does well, we'll see a few more with the current cast. They're up to seven Fast and Furious movies so I don't see why Trek would be any different.

No thank you. I'd rather see another reboot than go back to any of the TV spin-offs. I love DS9, and can appreciate TNG and ENT and don't really like VOY at all but Trek is the Enterprise, NCC-1701, no bloody -A, -B, -C or -D. Trek is Kirk and Spock.

As others have said, there is so much more to explore here with the nuTrek verse.

I'd rather TNG get rebooted before we get a second TOS reboot. I actually could get really excited about that idea, but I'm also interested in more movies with the reboot TOS. I'm just skeptical about how many more movies we'll get with Pine and Quinto.
I think a TNG reboot tv series - or possibly a different tv series set in the reboot 23rd century could be fun.
Sure, if I could get the original TNG actors or something set in the original universe I'd be thrilled, but I don't think that'll happen.

Who knows what will happen decades down the line.

...We're not going to see nuTNG, ever.

Didn't people say we'd never see Kirk on screen again after TNG aired?

Not that I'm aware of. Didn't STIV come out just prior to TNG? I doubt Paramount was going to cut off the films at that point.

Yeah. STIV came out almost a year before TNG first aired.

I like TNG, but it had a great run. By comparison, there's a big gap in TOS on-screen lore between the end of TOS and the films starting with TWOK. If Paramount makes more Trek movies after LinTrek, I'd love to see that gap filled in a bit.

The thing is, why did TNG even exist in the first place? Because Roddenberry wanted a show that so distanced itself from TOS that he felt it needed to take place a century later so that the universe evolved into more of a utopia than what was seen during Kirk's time. Well, that made for pretty lousy storytelling. And there's no need now to distance nuTOS from itself.

Plus, think like a Hollywood TV or movie producer. In their minds, Berman-era Trek strangled itself and almost caused televised Trek to die completely. Each successive spinoff (after TNG which was syndicated) went further down in ratings, and the last two TNG films bombed. They'd want to stay away from that formula for many years to come, especially when they now have a formula that works perfectly.

nuTNG movie cast (if they did it soon like 2018/19)

Picard - Mark Strong
Riker - Brandon Routh/Armie Hammer
Data - Tom Hiddleston / cillian murphy
LaForge - Chwietel Ejiofor / the MLK guy
Crusher - Bryce Dallas Howard/Jessica Chastain
Troi -Eva Green
Worf - Jason Momoa
Yar - Adrianne Palicki
Guinan - Halle Berry

Some of the actors I'm not familiar with, but some choices like Momoa and Hiddleston are very good casting choices! I couldn't think of anyone better there.
I think Halle Berry would be a pretty boring choice though. I'm not a big fan of hers, and she's stumbled pretty hard in some of her roles. I'd want to go with someone whose fame wasn't so much about her looks. Queen Latifah would make an excellent Guinan I think.

the 'Berman era' didn't really begin until the end of TNG/start of DS9.. before that the 'TNG era' Trek had become pretty much comparable to TOS in terms of quality, characters/ships/props recognition, catchphrases, general popularity etc even threatening to overshadow TOS (at least seasons 3 onward anyway). if they were to do a TNG reboot itd be that 'era' of TNG theyd be aiming to replicate (plus FC :borg:)...not so much DS9/VOY/ENT/INS/NEM

Replying out of order because one will lead into another...

That's right. "Many years to come", which isn't the same as never. People have short memories and eventually they tend to look back on things nostalgically with rose-tinted glasses...

I don't think they'll have DS9, VOY, or ENT movies. BUT, when it comes to TNG, well, "Planet of the Apes" had diminishing returns in the '70s as well and now here it is back. Eventually, after no one remembers Insurrection or Nemesis (and I think most people already don't), they'll want to re-brand TNG as something new.

Having said all that, even though I think someone will try to bring it back at some point, I don't think TNG translates well on the big screen.

I wouldn't go that far. Everything gets remade eventually. I wouldn't be surprised if somebody revamps TNG someday.

But, yeah, I'm not sure why everybody is in so much of a hurry to move on to the next reboot--or even worrying about the next next movie at this point.

I mean, seriously, STAR TREK 3 or XIII or whatever we're calling it hasn't even started filming yet and is still more than a year away. It's not even coming out this summer, but the next one. That's forever from now.

Why not hold off on speculating about ST 4 until 2017 at least? :)

I'd prefer a proper reboot with a fresh universe and, more importantly, new characters. I've been trying to get into the novel-verse lately, and one of the key things I've noticed is that most of the sections focusing on new characters are fairly interesting, while I honestly couldn't care less about what any of the TV show characters are up to. We've had enough of them. Their stories are done. Why can't we just move on?

Either return to the prime universe and jump forward another hundred years, or start anew without any time travel nonsense and do things properly. You can keep Starfleet and the usual lineup of adversaries and the key technologies, but everything else can be dumped.
