It was definitely nuclear weapons, that's what did it. And the explosions caused massive power outages which caused the failsafe to fail, which released a super bacteria from a secret lab. That caused a huge plague, and as the victims died, they rose from the dead twelve hours later to roam the Earth and feast on human flesh. A handful of gritty survivors from all walks of life were able to keep the legions of the infected radioactive undead at bay, using only their wits, and an inexplicable comprehension of agricultural science and engineering. Everything was looking good... and that's when the meteor hit.

With all due respect to Red vs. Blue.

The Villian:
Nero wanted revenge.
Khan wanted revenge.
Krall wanted revenge.

Baddie #4 will want to have revenge.

Kirk's Arc:
Part 1 --> Kirk is born, goes to the Academy, and gets command of the Enterprise. (Telling an Origin Story)
Part 2 --> Kirk embarks on a five-year mission on the refitted Enterprise. (Mash-up of TMP and the beginning of TOS)
Part 3 --> Kirk is older. The five-year mission is cut short with the destruction of the Enterprise. Unlike his Prime counterpart, this Kirk turns down a promotion to Admiral. And he takes command of the Enterprise-A. (Mash-up of after TOS ended and where Kirk was in TWOK-TVH)

Part 4 --> I don't know. Kirk discovers he has a long-lost kid... who's still underage... so he has to pay child support? No. This is better: Kirk disobeys orders and becomes wanted by Starfleet. And still has to pay child support! Carol Marcus is pissed. There we go.

Spock and Uhura:
In the first three movies, they were already together, had their ups-and-downs, and helped each other through tough times. Now it's several years later, so...

They get married! And Spock is offered a promotion to Captain but turns it down and elects to stay on the Enterprise. (Mash-up of Riker's arc in BOBW and NEM, since there's nothing like this in TOS)

Kirk plans the Bachelor Party. :devil:

There's lots of running and things explode. Kirk dangles over a precipice repeatedly.

Seriously, I have no idea. I wanted Kirk to finish up his 3-movies-deep Daddy Issues but that's off the table. I *hope* they won't touch time travel since 2 of their unmade scripts feature it as does Tarantino Trek (supposedly) and it never fully makes sense when they do that kind of thing anyway. Terminator: Dark Fate showed us that Paramount are really quite conservative in their filmmaking. While the opening of that movie made a HUGE plot change full of shock value, the content of the rest of the movie wasn't really much different to the previous Terminator adventures. Every single Mission: Impossible movie is about how Ethan Hunt has to go rogue to save the world. So maybe ST4 will be more of the same from '09/ID and BEY. Or perhaps they've learned and it really will be a new direction that gives Paramount a much-needed boost.

Or maybe it never gets made. We will see.

imho id prefer whatever Tarantino was/is cooking up for ST4...however with the Legion guy doing ST4 would want to see something other than the 'khanalike revenge seeking madman' we've seen for the past 5? movies/20years : so that means only one thing... The Borg :borg:

I know a lot of people on these boards don't want the Borg, but with their appearance in Enterprise I think a precedent was set for them to appear in any trek era. I personally would welcome it - but only if they do it right and really make them into a terrifying unstoppable force, no Borg queen. With modern effects they could be re-imagined really well.

The Movie opens with V‘Ger about to return in an almost shot-by-shot recreation of TMP.

but then the Klingons manage to destroy it easily with salvaged tech from the Narada.

Kirk and Enterprise will have to stop them from rampaging through the GalaxY with their new weapons.

Some mysterious, bearded time/space traveler battling an antimatter version of himself, in a desperate bid to prevent the annihilation of the multiverse.

Don't forget...the beard must randomly change length/shape on each one, just to ensure we can't tell which one is which. That's a key element. If it's not there...BOYCOTTTT!!!!!!!

Kirk vs. Spock, or Kirk vs. the Borg.

I have spoken.
Kirk vs Spock would be awesome. Something to turn best friends against each other, a little bit Magneto and Professor X-ish. They still have a lot of love for each other but are on opposite sides of some philosophical divide. Perhaps the gizmo Bob Orci's unmade script was about, with the ability to resurrect Vulcan but with potentially chaotic consequences for the rest of the galaxy...

An older and even more mature Kirk finds himself at odds with his new navigator, a brash young Commander Willard Decker, who reminds him of his days when Pike was his mentor. But as Kirk and Decker work out their differences, the Federation finds itself under siege by a catastrophe of its own making...

Either that or Vacation at Mudd's.

with noah hawley on board, i'm assuming it's gonna lean more towards legion than fargo. maybe a proper, trippy, 1960s sci-fi right out of TOS that will still find a way to piss off fans.

For fun, I guessed everything except something new. :D

But if wild fan ideas are what you're looking for, howsabout Kirk and crew versus 23rd century Cardassians? We know from a reference in the 2009 movie that the Federation are already familiar with them at this time, and it takes two different elements of Star Trek that have never interacted and mashes them up to maybe get something new out of them? Ideally, I'd just prefer something actually new, though. ;)

No matter how they do it, someone's gonna complain that Lt. Masters:
* isn't properly cast
* isn't wearing the correct uniform
* isn't even in the damn story
* etc.
* etc., etc., etc. ...

You would have to bring in a science fiction writer to hash it all out, and a deft screenwriter to get it up on the screen in a digestible form, but remaking "The Alternative Factor" isn't the worst idea out there.

I see it being Pine vs. Pine-with-a-goatee, all-out Mirror Universe warfare. :eek:

On a more serious note, if the passing of Yelchin turns out to be the death of Chekov (rather than recasting), it will most likely be a revenge movie to get whoever killed Chekov (whichever enemy they come up with).
