Star Trek 2E CCG

Since Second Edition is now a dead ccg I have been thinking about getting into the game now. I quit the Star Trek CCG after 1E was stopped because I could not fathom the idea of starting over after the amount of money I poured into the game, but now that I know the sets that are out I am rethinking that.

I wanted to know what people's thoughts about 2E are and if it is worth the money. Thank you for your time and comments.

I played 1E in middle school, and enjoyed it, but didn't particularly like 2E. The game increases the emphasis on dilemmas (which became the primary form of interaction between players) and mission solving at the expense of Star Trek flavor and variety in play. It did seem to be enjoyed by a lot of 1E players, though.

If you are interested in the game, The Continuing Committee, a player organization set up with Decipher's help to regulate organized play, has produced several printable virtual expansions (and various errata and virtual "reprints") that are available at their website, along with a player community of moderate size. They also produce 1E and Tribbles CCG expansions and superintend organized play for those games.

I'm still buying up on 1E sets--using online sites, Amazon, Hill's Wholesale Gaming, that sort of thing.

I haven't taken a particular interest in 2E, as of yet--I have a few cards, but I still think in terms of 1E.

(I'm a little irritated at the element of "cost" introduced in 2E. Other than that, I miss the personnell classifications--OFFICER, VIP, etc.--and the card lore which had helped a great deal in my initial education in the Star Trek Universe.)

Sure, 1E became complex over time--but in a good way. When bringing my little brother and one of his friends into the game, I started with the original TNG rules, and then introduced them bit by bit to the "advanced" rules developed later. They appreciate the complexity and, frankly, richness of 1E as much as I do.
