Star Trek 2 ideas

NewAdventure

Newbie
As a long time fan of the Star Trek franchise I was surprised by how much I loved the new film. It was a very fun rebirth of Trek, but it was not perfect.

I think the main flaws of the film come from a script level and could have been fixed with one more rewrite, as this movie was being done during the writers strike it is possible that the writers simply did not get a chance to tidy up the script and remove some of the flaws/ contrivances.

This is a thread for us fans to express what direction we want to see the sequel go.

The current rumor on the internet seems to be that the next film will feature the return of Khan, a feature-length re-imagining of "Space Seed" I suppose, and while this would be fun to see I think it is important that the new franchise does something new.

Space: the final frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life-forms and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before.

I would personally like the next film to focus on exploration, possibly open similar to "The Corbomite Maneuver" with the crew of the Enterprise exploring a region of space previously unexplored and making Star-maps of the region.

And whether the film goes on from there to introduce Khan or decides to have the Borg show up, or goes in an entirely fresh direction, I think it is important that the next film focus more on character and for it to aspire to be a more cerebral film than the current one.

As you are also fans, what are your ideas for the sequel and what of this film would you like to be corrected in a future film?

All I know is I feel it must be brand new stuff. We don't need Space Seed remade, or to undo one of the best things of this universe by reset buttoning Vulcan and bringing it back.

Let's have a brand new, good old fashioned Star Trek style space adventure. That's all. It's simple.

To be honest I was actually going to suggest that they do a story that addresses the war between the Federation and the Klingon empire. No time travel or space anomalies, just war, suspense and dramatic tension.

I'd rather not have a film based around the Klingons really. I'd like to see a prequel to Khan or a "remake" of Space Seed. The one thing about TWoK is that it didn't make a whole lot of sense that they were these hated rivals from one episode of TOS.

I'm thinking that in the next movie they could "touch" on a familiar adventure, like sum it up in 10 minutes, or have them at the tail end of it (the teaser before the credits) then move into a totally new adventure

I walked away from Star Trek with the feeling that Abrams is trying to get away from the Classic Trek in the sense of remakes and referencing the source material. I think he's more about reinvention than remaking. But, your ideas would make a terrific series of novels.

Definitely no more time travel or space anomalies either! If it's been the focus of another movie or overdone in a series then I think it should be avoided.

I have a feeling it will be something original in the next one.

In that case...I think war is a really good place to take the next film. The only way it could truly be topical is if the Federation is undergoing an economic crisis and as a result of this needs to cut back on staff. To address this solution, the Federation employs a team of accounting experts at a reduced rate, namely:

Tell me you prefer the Klingon War idea instead....

I wouldn't mind seeing a reworking of "The Doomsday Machine" or "Where No Man Has Gone Before", but I guess it would be kind of hard putting in Gary Mitchell now or Trelane as member of the Q Continuum. Redoing the "Tholian Web" and perhaps "Arena" would be interesting too. "The Enterprise Incident" might be interesting to do next. It could bring in a sexy Romulan commander to tempt Spock, piss off Uhura, and there could be some nice cloak and dagger stuff with Kirk. I can more easily see this Kirk-Spock tandem pull off not liking each other better than on the TOS episode.

But I wouldn't mind either seeing brand new stories. I would like to see some more aliens, a mix of new and old on the Enterprise and in the background for the next film. I didn't see any Andorians, I heard about a Tellarite but I missed him/her, Caitians, Edoans/Triexians(sp), having them around would be pretty cool. I would also like to see what the Abrams version of the Klingons look like, in addition to the Tholians and Gorn.

If they need adversaries, they could just develop the Tholians, Orions, and Gorn instead of going back to the Klingons or Romulans or creating a new adversary. But I wonder if the Romulans will take the place of the Klingons as the big bad in the new universe? Perhaps not, but it would be interesting. They've already been set up somewhat nicely by the movie and Kirk was already thinking of options to create peace between the Federation and the Romulans. I would actually prefer to see the Romulans more than the Klingons, since they were featured heavily in most of the Trek films, and on TNG/DS9/ENT, with a strong presence on VOY too. Surprisingly, TOS used the Klingons least it appears.

Please, no more:
Remakes of filmed episodes
Time Travel
Deus Ex Machina endings
Reset Buttons
Resurrections

If the writers cannot give us strange new worlds, new life-forms, and new civilizations, than I don't want to boldly go to the Hardees' Drive Thru with them, more the less on a mission of exploration.

I would like to see a genuine exploration story, with a mystery underlaying it, that requires the Enterprise to nary-fire a shot (save, perhaps, to test some minerals or something)... but that won't make 100 Million at the box office, so I imagine such stories will be relegated to books and the next film will be another shoot-em-up.

I hope I am wrong.

I like that idea! :techman:

I am totally for a Doomsday Weapon movie, expand on the episode by having the weapon be inhabitable (though uninhabited) so that the landing party can explore a trap filled alien environment in a attempt to divert its course.

You have the drama of Decker trying to take command, the mystery of the weapon at hand, the attacks on the ship. Make the weapon insanely large (like in the realm of Vger sized)

It could be a lot of fun.

When you think about it, Klingons are the next logical adversary unless they introduce another one. But Klingons is a must if they want to build on the grittier, harder side of Star Trek. I'd love to see them go further with the foundations they have set in this film.

ALTHOUGH, the whole genocide of Vulcan needs to be explored too....lets hope they do something with that...and no...I don't mean find a way for the crew to prevent it from happening, make a story that focuses on the colour of war and the importance of standing tall amongst it.

Star Trek.."The Search for Admiral Archer's Dog."

There are a lot of stories waiting to be made..Harry Mudd could be the next villian, but as long as it's ENTERTAINING..that will make or break it..

Well obviously, but when you make a movie that's even more dour and downtrodden than nuBSG, it's really hard to make a case.

It's hard to walk out of this movie with a positive outlook.

I agree, and its a good thing - but with Khan, its a bit like Lex Luthor or Zod from Superman really. I think they could do a Khan film, hell I think they could do a Borg film if they're really desperate. But I just hope it isn't the Klingons - I'm a bit bored of them really, they're not bad if they're just in and around the film.

I also think they could bring Nero back, but I doubt they will.
