That's literally one of the stupidest complaints I have ever, ever heard in regards to a reboot. It's a good thing they rebooted Star Trek so we can have new, fresh ideas like Khan and the Borg.
I know, right?
A reboot by its very nature is going to feature characters that were already previous in the original works.
The only time one would have a valid complaint is when one would tell an event exactly as it already occurred. So far no matter what people believe no events that I can recall are carbon copies from the prime universe events. Not a one.
Of course that doesn't mean different is good, but it does mean complaining about a race or a person, who was a part of the prime universe, is utterly stupid.
I would hope that adults would be above such behavior, but of course one knows better.
No, the stupidest complaint is from those who complain about past Trek movies and series not being original enough, rehashing old ideas we've seen before, aping or relying on Star Trek 2 too much, or ripping on Voyager because they used the Borg too much, yet fully support, in fact are apologists for JJ Abrams using Khan and DIRECTLY lifting lines from the original Khan movie. That is the stuff of apologists, which I hope doesn't include you.
Abrams has a blank slate and full reign and license to take Star trek into new and uncharted territory, and even isn't hindered by previous canon because its a totally new timeline.
I really hope this rumor is a bad internet rumor. Abrams was hired to bring fresh new ideas to the Star Trek franchise, not simply rehash old ideas and "Abramsize" them. So far, in my book, he is 1-1. Loved Trek 2009, disgusted by STID. The guy is a directing and FX genius, but needs the story worthy of those talents. Give us a new villain, not the Borg or the Klingons, PLEASE. Or they might as well bring back B&B and the Prime universe.
