Star Trek 09 Pledge Drive

I've noticed a trend on these boards; there are some posters who are upset about this new movie. Such sentiments are inevitable I'm afraid. Some of these posters have decided not to see the movie. That's fine. That's their prerogative. However, I'm rather invested in this movie's success. I want more Star Trek. More movies. More TV shows. Star Trek: The Animated Series Phase II. I want it all.

I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. I commit to seeing the film five extra times, or at least purchasing five tickets and giving them to friends to see the film. I will buy these tickets to make up for up to five posters who declare that they will not watch the movie.

I understand some might be tempted to say they won't and then go see it, in an effort to secure my five extra tickets for the movie's gross. Others might bluster about not seeing the movie but actually end up seeing it in the end.

It's on your honor to be forthright. For each poster who commits not to see the movie, I will buy one ticket (up to five total) to make up for your lost revenue.

Perhaps other will join me in this enterprise. If you wish to participate as another sponsor like me or if you wish to declare your intention not to see the film, please do so here.

Thank you very much.

Mate a few hundred extra tickets (if that) won't make any difference as to whether or not there are future films, series etc

Yeah I know it's just a drop in the bucket, but I thought I'd try to do my part. Maybe if the movement gets big enough, we can make a difference.

Fair enough but you'd make a bigger difference trying to spread word of mouth about the film to your non-Trekkie friends and get them to spread the word etc...

Sorry to say, this stuff never works.

If you like the film and whatnot, then go see it multiple times. If you don't, then don't support it. That's what the general audience is going to do. Let the chips lie. IMO, if the film is good, then the audience will be there. If its bad, then it'll be a good thing if it tanks.

I'll see the movie and if I really like it I'll probably see it a time or two more in the theater. I'm sure I'll wind up with the DVD in any event. I'm sure not invested enough in the "future of Star Trek" to spend a penny more than the experience of the movie itself is worth to me.

Well, I think we should get people to sponsor us like charity marathon runners.

So, who is willing to pay for my movie tickets?

I plan to see the movie more than once in the theater. I will watch it on opening night, and the following night, and maybe once more that first weekend, and then probably again the next weekend. I also plan to purchase the DVD. I will also encourage everyone I know to watch it. I want more Star Trek to follow as well.

I am on another Trek message board and there are some older fans so upset with this movie that they are not going to go see it. I feel like buying them a ticket because I really think we should support all trek so we can keep the movies and shows coming.

Before I click on the thread, I thought it was going to be about all the haters/bashers putting their money together to make a fan film that would be "true" canonical story of young James T. Kirk and friends.

Well, I'm not really doing any kind of pledge drive, what I am doing is taking 12 people with me to the theater, and I'm buying.

yeah i have a feeling this will have the greatest impact ;if all the people who like the movie inlcuding the non trek fans spread the word about how they liked the film.

i suspect the number of trek fans who are so oppesed to film that they wont even give it a try to be in the low thousands if that much.

how well this movie does will have more to do with just how good of a MOVIE it is not just how good a trek one.
and does it deliver as far as entertainment.

Gee, you guys aren't worried us cranky old farts might be right after all about this thing being a turkey, are you?

I'm taking 12 people with me because they've expressed interest in the movie. I offered to pay their way so they could get a free experience to the world of Star Trek.

I am a very long time fan. Became a fan at the age of 10 in 1973 and I am very excited about this movie. I think it looks great!

well as a sometimes cranky (when i feel ill) old fart who watched trek first run as a kid back in the 60's i am looking forward to seeing this film.
if it sucks at story telling i may end up not liking it but i do want to see it before deciding if it sucks or not.
