Searching back through the forum history, I see the Star Traks fan fiction collection was mentioned waaaay back in 2008. As the Nexus website has recently been revamped and relaunched, this seems like a good time and place to bring it up again.
To boldly screw up where none have screwed up before! Since 1992!
The Star Traks Nexus is a collection of Star Trek parody/comedy fan fiction, starting all the way back in the early 90s with the original parody 'Star Traks', by Alan Decker. Featuring Captain Rydell and his crew of outcasts aboard the USS Secondprize, 'Star Traks' was the 'Lower Decks' fan fiction of 25 years ago. A second series, 'Star Traks: Waystation' quickly spun off. Detailing the crew of the shoddiest fort built on the border of a hilariously xenophobic race, Waystation was a firm step away from parody and into original fan fiction.
Shortly afterward, a college buddy of Alan's launched 'Star Traks: The Vexed Generation'. This series started with the crew of the USS Aerostar getting stuck in the Delta Quadrant and dealing with a cannibalistic insect race called the Flarn. Although it started looking like a Voyager parody, 'Vexed Generation' quickly morphed away from blatant parody and more towards comedic fan fiction. It was around this time (1996 or so) that the two launched the first 'Star Traks Nexus' website, moving from 'college dorm scribble' to 'posted Internet plaintext scribble'.
In fact, with Alan continuing his work on 'Star Traks: Waystation' series along with doing a further run of 'Original Traks' stories, the entire site was moving away from parody and into comedy fan fiction. Over the next decade, several authors would join with series of their own including 'BorgSpace' by Maija Meneks, 'Banshee' by Brad Dusen and 'Silverado' by Brendan Chris. Numerous guest authors submitted one-shots or mini-series, which were collected in the 'Alternate Traks' collection. Furthermore, the main site authors wrote a number of one-shots, mini-series, and other miscellaneous bits of work, collected under 'Traks Unleashed'. We even had a 40 minute episode of 'Star Traks: Machinima'. But frankly, we beg you not to watch it. (It makes us cringe.) And long before JJ Abrams and 'Star Trek: Picard' made it a continuity nightmare, Alan and Anthony explored the 25th century with 'Star Traks: Boldly Gone'. No spoilers, but 'Star Trek: Prodigy' has one or two starship design decisions that are suspiciously similar to the USS Anomaly in 'Boldly Gone'.
But the reason I bring the site up now: In 2021 we embarked on a complete redesign and relaunch of the Nexus, converting all the old .txt stories into a modern, desktop and mobile-friendly format, updating site navigation and implementing a consistent format across all the various series. (There are no ads. We hate ads.) We launched the new site just a few months ago, at the end of 2021. The forums have been updated and given a slick new look, and we're active on Facebook and Twitter. Yeah, we know. Those sites betray our age. We aren't cool enough for TikTok yet, or popular enough for Discord.
Aside from the new site, there is also new content after something of a hiatus. Alan has come back with a new mini-series: 'Star Traks: TOSsed', about a freighter crew working in the TOS era. Anthony has a new run of 'Vexed Generation' coming up in a month or so, new 'Boldly Gone' is coming later this year, and Brendan is slowly (oh so slowly) plodding along with his 'Howlers' mini-series.
So whether you're a reader from the way back who's (understandably) forgotten that we exist, or a new reader looking for some interesting Trek comedy, now's a great time to check out the Star Traks Nexus!
