Anybody else remember this classic series? I remember playing this back in the day and thought the battles were awesome. I always played the Earthling Cruiser, because it looked like the Enterprise. The problem is it's kind of weak so I got destroyed pretty frequently.

The original developers released the source code for Star Control 2, so anybody that wants a taste of classic gaming goodness can go here. I started playing it last night and it's just as much fun as I remember.

If there was ever a game that needed an update to modern standards, this is it. I have fond memories of the first two from long, long ago.

I missed The Ur-Quan Masters on its first go-around, but now that it's been freely released, I play the shit out of it on my MacBook Pro whenever I get a chance.

I just found out it was released last night. I played it for six hours straight. Just goes to show that flashy graphics aren't the be all, end all of a great game.

Yeah, it's one of my favourite games... and when the BioWare dudes compared Mass Effect to Star Control, I was extremely excited... until it turned out they meant that you could drive a crappy car around blank/boring terrain. :p

I've been waiting for XBOX Live Arcade to re-release the original. It would be so cool. I liked the (jack-shaped) ship-I could pinwheel and fire like a mad sniper. Wish someone would remember the goodness and bring it back.

Taking out an Ur-Quan ship with one of those, while very rare for me, was one seriously rewarding gaming moment.

I've been playing SC2 pretty much since the original release. I'd love to see this game resurrected in a *good* sequel (SC3 sucked), but it would be very difficult to capture the humor again.
