Star Charts - Banshee Squadron Addendum

In the tradition of Geoffrey Mandel's Star Trek Star Charts, I wrote the Banshee Squadron Addendum. I hope you enjoy.

A couple of notes:

First, a pronunciation guide for names taken from Canadian First Nations' religious/mythological background would be good, as well as telling us which First Nations were the sources of those names.

Second, Why move the Brian Patch?

The planet names were thought up a long time ago in an old RPG. I don't think I used any one Indian tribe as a source. Most likely I just started Googling for anything Canadian or Eskimo etc. and picked names that sounded good and fit the general theme.

Originally I was going to name the planets after Canadian beers, but decided that was a little too silly. :p

A pronunciation guide is a good idea. :)

I didn't "move" the Briar Patch, ENT did. :) I started the Banshee Squadron stories long before ENT established that the Briar Patch was near the Klingons. Moving the Patch to the "correct" place would have meant seriously changing everything I had written up to that point, so I just left it where it was. It's just one detail among many that are different than Geoffrey Mandel's interpretation.

Good maps. Only one thing totally wilts the willing suspension of disbelief:

Oh my... the Federation's territory is shaped like... Moonbase Alpha!!?? Is there some kind of in- joke as to why Space: 1999 stuff should pop up here? Fred Freiberger have something to do with it?

Good maps.
Thanks. :)

Moonbase Alpha!!??
Heh, I never thought of that. :) Actually, I copied the segmented circular thingy from the real Star Trek Star Charts, so blame Mr. Mandel. :)

The galaxy map has changed a few times since I started the project, and the moonbase thingy might have become redundant somewhere along the way. I'm pretty sure this map will have at least 1 more iteration before I'm satisfied, so we'll see if the moonbase stays or goes.

Didn't Geoffrey Mandel also work on the Moonbase Alpha Tech Notebook and/or one of the several versions of the Eagle blueprints for Starlog Press?

^^^ Yes.

And, I'm pretty sure the thread is gone now (this was back in 2002), but Geoff used to frequent this BBS back then and, when the book came out, I noticed that the Federation outline looked startlingly similar to the layout of Moonbase Alpha and he admitted to putting it in there as an in-joke. I thought it was kind of cool, personally. He may still be lurking about here to re-verify the story, but I do remember the thread conversation clearly, unless there was someone here posing as him.

Oh, and to the OP, very cool maps, BTW! I love the three Trojan worlds orbiting the invisible wormhole. Neat concept! :techman:

You'd be better off sending the guy a PM instead of necroing a six year old thread, I'd surmise ;)
