Star Bases

Where can a list of star bases situated along the Klingon Neutral Zone during the period of time between movies 2 thru 6 be found? Where is star base 6 located?

In all seriousness, its location was never specified. So it can be as close to the Klingon Neutral Zone as you want.

...Although probably it is not all that close to the enemy, or else Starfleet in (the TOS-R version of) "Ultimate Computer" would not conduct top secret wargames by using that starbase as the starting point. :vulcan:

Starbase 6 was somewhere in the vicinity of the Gamma 7A system as established by The Immunity Syndrome.

...And here's a core dump from Memory Beta, on the various noncanon appearances of or references to Starbase 6:

The only story linking SB6 to the Klingons is Final Reflection. And in that novel, set mainly in the 2230s, there is no Klingon Neutral Zone yet - one of the characters wants to create such a thing, to be sure, but doesn't fare too well...

I went to Star Trek Star Charts(non-canon),and found several starbases or outposts along the Klingon border that almost reach to the Romulan Neutral Zone.

...That was done as a tip of the hat to the TNG "The Neutral Zone" reference to a Starbase 39 Sierra. It didn't sound too likely that "Sierra" would be a proper name, since elsewhere in Trek we had learned that a phonetic alphabet rather similar to the one used in the late 20th century was still in Starfleet use and used "Sierra" to indicate the letter S. OTOH, it didn't sound likely that there would be 25 starbases numbered "39", from "39 Alpha" through to "39 Zulu". When "The Defector" also had an Outpost Sierra 6 and "The Child" had a Science Station Tango Sierra, it wasn't so far-fetched to think of Sierra as the code letter for an entire chain of fortifications, including Starbase 39 and a number of outposts...

David George jumped at the chance (or perhaps arrived at this idea independently?) and postulated the Foxtrot series of fortifications for his novel Serpents Among the Ruins. While the map only shows Sierras and Tangos, there may well be other outpost chains out there, off the map plane; the Foxtrots would certainly fit the picture, and perhaps deep space station K-7 was part of the Kilo chain?

I looked on every page of those star charts for a reference key to star bases, as far as I can tell there isn't one.
Triangles are outposts, star bases are red circles surrounded by white.
I also found a star base G-6 but no lone star base 6.

Most of the features end up being on the map because some sort of a guess can be made on where they might be located. Those features for which such a guess cannot be made tend to be left out altogether. Most of the starbases were like that... And in any case, inserting 700+ of those would have really crowded the map! Admittedly, a guess should really have been made for SB 6, though.

Following the above speculation on what Starbase 39 Sierra might be, Starbase 6 Golf (or G6) would be the one and only Starbase 6, but also part of the Golf chain of fortifications. So, it would lie close to Betazed, but would also supposedly lie close to the testing grounds in "Ultimate Computer"... Which would suggest Betazed lies close to Canopus, an arrangement that makes little sense and would throw the Star Charts to utter chaos. :klingon:

The list of UFP member worlds next to the foldout maps features significantly more worlds than the maps themselves do. Also, since Mandel did that all by himself (quoting the Encyclopedia) and much of the map was my doing, there are actually discrepancies there, and assorted other complications. For example, the Encyclopedia claims that Klaestron was a UFP member even though dialogue from the episode "Dax" establishes the opposite to be true. So Klaestron is outside UFP borders, but ends up being colored blue anyway...

Generic late TNG, yeah. The Cardassian fighting is already over, so there are fixed borders plus the DMZ there. The Klingon border hasn't yet been marred by the Founder-instigated war. Essentially, this is how it would have looked like before the Dominion conflict really started rolling. Back in TOS, the Federation would have been a tad smaller, the Klingons probably as well, the Romulans might not have completely filled their eggshell RNZ interior yet, the Cardassians might have held less territory or perhaps more, and so forth.

That is, the above holds true for the big maps and fold-outs of the Alpha/Beta section. Then there are the pages depicting an earlier period of Alpha (although the later seasons of ENT complicated that), and of course the Delta pages reflect the specific years the Voyager was passing through (with the Krenim meddling complicating things). Gamma is a bit thrown-together, but again prewar, depicting something like the first two-three seasons of DS9. Although I'd argue there's a scaling error there, with the early runabout exploration "really" involving distances that are one-tenth of what's shown.

Are there any star charts set in TOS era? Wish there was a site that shows how the Federation expanded between TOS & TNG, because of Picards' remark about 150 member plants in FC

Although watching the Enterprise wipe out four of her sister ships without breaking a sweat might make the Klingons piss their pants thinking the Feds had a new secret weapon.

Mandel's earlier work, Star Trek Maps, depicts post TMP, pre TWOK with maps in the X-Y and X=Z planes, giving a 3D look.
Ebay shows them available for $70 - $200.
