Stanislaw Lem's animated Futurological Congress movie update

I had no idea this was even happening! I haven't read this book, but I've enjoyed the other Ijon Tichy stories. Cool beans.

Hmm. We'll see. In that clip, the guy is sort of bragging about how far he's deviating from the story. That's not a good sign.

Well, he is sort of right, though. Adapting a story from one medium (book) to a decidedly different one (film) requires the scriptwriter to "free himself from the book" as Ari Folman put it. Of course, that's no guarantee for success. ;)
I'm not impressed with the animation in the footage that was shown. It came across as somewhat lifeless and I'm not sure that it works for the whole length of a movie. For me, anyway. I still haven't seen Waltz With Bashir although I've been meaning to for years.
Another personal problem I'd have with this is that I really like the German live action tv show of Ijon Tichy's adventures and associate Ijon Tichy with that show's whacky universe and characters.

I recently saw some episodes of the first season with subtitles on YouTube (only two seem to have been uploaded so far). They're unofficial and I have no idea whether they're any good. One of the charms of the show is that a lot of the characters, among them Ijon Tichy himself, speak with an exaggerated Eastern European accent which includes many colourful idioms and expressions. That's obviously lost in translation. But it will give you some idea what the show is like. It might be kind of shocking, though, because it is really the weirdest show I've ever seen.

Thanks! I'll have to look at them. (I just want to see the story where General Relativity means that the faster Tichy goes, the more relatives he has.)

I don't think they've done that one. They use motifs and story elements of the Star Diaries but it isn't a classic adaptation of each voyage. At the time it aired here some Lem fans were very unhappy with the show.
