Stamets and Cochrane

Oh I know...
Maybe Ripper comes back with a chit load of friends and 'rips' the Spore Drive out of Discovery.

Though that could negate Zora's 1000 year trip I suppose.
... Dang ...
:vulcan:

Where we stand now is on firm footing anyway. So far, only one starship has used the drive successfully and survived to tell the tale. Except they aren't telling: they quite deliberately do this Lone Ranger act where those saved by the drive never get to thank or even see their saviors. And it all happens in wartime, under great secrecy, and nothing that gets accomplished could credibly be connected to a superdrive existing. If the accomplishments even get acknowledged, that is.

In-universe, the spore drive does not exist as of 2257. Nor do Mirror Universes. A dozen other things might "not exist" at the time, too. Too bad cloaks of invisibility are not among those, but instead are headline news, at least on Starfleet Weekly.

The Eaglemoss book says the drive and all research is classified. I don't recall if this is said in the show, so I'm not sure if that's canon.

One of the major things in Discovery that pissed me off
I mean ffs, how are they going to get out of the whole Spore Drive thing ?
It turns out PRototaxis Sporifera or whatever the hell it is, only blooms every 1,000 years and Stamets got lucky.
Have to partk Disco someplace and let the tank full back up. Zora, be a dear and keep an eye on it.

If it wasn't it would still be used. So somewhere along the line, it's going to be a failed technology. How, we don't know yet.
Sadly, I'm certain the writers don't either. And after how they nonsensically wrapped up the Klingon War (another creation of the early season one regimes), I am not hopeful.

Except he terraformed a planetoid to grow it in about 5 minutes.

It's really obvious that the spore drive can't be reproduced or prolificated because you need a tardigrade to run it. And, the only reason the USS Discovery was successful was because they found a tardigrade aboard the USS Glenn, which had obviously teleported there given the mycelial network activity the experiments were causing. Since Stamets needed to inject himself with DNA from the creature to make the drive work in its absence...you can pretty much surmise that you simply can't run the drive without the tardigrade element. And, since the tardigrades are obviously rare (perhaps not even from our universe) and perhaps sentient, the chances of ever finding a singular one again are extremely limited.

So the spore drive ends up in the same warehouse with the lost ark of the covenant, the Excelsior's transwarp system, and the slipstream drive.

This is actually extremely logical and obvious. I'm not sure why this has caused such a stir.

But rest assured that Starfleet will have top men working on it.

Top. Men.

I still don't get how folks think that Transwarp was a failure?
Scotty fuckedup the workings, that's not a "Failure" that's "Sabotage".

Just because Trek writers have chosen not to use it in another script also doesn't mean it was a failure.

Hell for all we know, the Next Generation WARP Scale may just be based on Transwarp Drive.

Nobody has ever said different in any of the episodes.

As a matter of fact...
Here are the Excelsior's WARP Nacelles...

And here are the Enterprise-D WARP Nacelles...

For being about 80 years apart, they sure do have a lot of similarities.

Just for comparison, here's the Enterprise-A...

Not seeing a whole lot of commonality there.
