Stagate/Trek BOOM

I was watching Stargate today. (Got it on Blu-ray for 10 bucks at Walmart)

It was really a nice print. I forgot how good and goofy this movie was. Haven't seen it in years. I notice it came out in 94, after The Undiscovered Country. Why does this matter?

When the pyramid ship blows up at the end, and it shows that expanding wave of energy...did they lift that from the explosion of the klingon moon in Star trek 6? The angle of the explosion, and speed, sure looks the same...

Any way..the wife, who had never seen this movie, loved it. So we went out and got STARGATE season one on dvd...we have seen two episodes and so far...so good...

I think that the effects were both done by ILM so its possible that they were the same. Of course in the remastered Star Wars, the Deathstar also explodes in a linear wave (which was silly to begin with).

I don't think the movie is quite as good as the TV series. After all, it was only the TV series that got me to give the movie a 2nd look in the first place. However, the movie is great as its own little thing. I love that tagline, "It will take you a million light-years from home. But will it bring you back?" I still remember the Entertainment Tonight story that talked about how the biggest expense while making the movie was digitally removing stray footprints in the sand that shouldn't have been there.

The effects are similar, but definitely not the same:
