I do not know anybody who keeps track of when the movies are released to ID equipment. You have the TOS, then the Refit, then you add the letters for later.
Personally I think there is just confusion about the archaic Roman numerals and the bad math was coincident with the year.
This new movie is a reboot- what we have is a NuTOS- like Batman Begins. To us it is Star Trek 11, to the producers it is just Star Trek.

ST11 might be somewhat bad for marketing because 11 might get mixed up with the year for those who don't follow the franchise.
