ST XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet (H. Mudd?)

Re: ST XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet (H. Mudd

I have to say, I'm looking forwards to seeing Lindelof's influence on the script/story. I think he's a better writer than Orci and Kurtzman, so he might be able to smooth out some of the issues that popped up in XI.

As for Harry Mudd, I could take him or leave him. Depends how the character is handled.

Forget Harry Mudd, Star Trek XII needs Mr Arex to return.
They could really bring him to life with modern tech.

Just look at the Beta Quadrant alien on the bridge of Robau's Kelvin in the last movie. Looked a LOT like Mr. Arex, so muchso that a lot of fans(myself included)thought it was supposed to be the exact same species from TAS. It wouldn't take much to revive Arex.

It would be extremely interesting if They were to make Pike the villain in the next film...

After all the shit Nero put him through, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to think he might be a bit 'Out-Of-Sorts' at this point.

Something like him feeling that with the loss of Vulcan, the Federation is in grave danger and he has the solution...

Of course, His solution would be something that Kirk & Company would definitely have to prevent.

Having Harry Mudd as an unwitting accomplice to Pikes schemes would be an interesting way to include that character also.

With regards to Grunberg wanting the role, I had to do this...

(Yes. That's Roger's 'stache photoshopped into Greg's face.)

Please NO! I realize that I am likely in the minority here, but I am not a fan of Greg Grunberg's "acting." I find him to be barely watchable on Heroes!

I'm not so sure.

I mean, they did a good job with the big-faced guy at the bar and with the alien doctor/nurse on the Kelvin (the one who looked human except her eyes were placed oddly), but doing someone with six limbs?

That might be stretching it. I mean, even just showing him at the helm, not standing or walking....

I dunno. Three arms visible? Three fingers on each hand, with (apparently) two thumbs on each?

I'd love to see Arex in a live action Trek production, but can they do him right? If not, better to wait until it can be.

Interesting idea but, it could be a bit of a stretch to see Pike go nuts. He didn't seem to be suffering PTSD in the final scenes when Kirk was given command. Also, Pike seems to be so well adjusted that he could deal with any lingering nightmares or whatever without losing his mind.

Possibly! You never know. I think reviving Arex in TREK XII might spark new fan interest in TAS itself, help DVD and BluRay sales of the old show and possibly even pique interest in a new TREK animated show!

"TM: Can you tell us whether or not you based the Kelvin security officer on Arex from the animated Star Trek series? What else can you tell us about Alnschloss K’Bentayr?

BB: The character of Alnschloss was not inspired nor based on Arex. I hope no one is too disappointed. It was based on an original design by the film’s amazing creature designer and a brilliant artist, Neville Page. JJ liked the design Neville had and asked if I could realize it as a character. It was the first alien to work on first day of shooting and it wowed everybody. It was further brought to life by Kasia Kowalczyk, a terrific actress and director out of New York."

I think its a workable idea, but it would be too out there for the second movie. Show signs of it affecting his judgment in the second and build it up to the third

Mind you, we never did see them remove that Centauri Slug..

Oh, I'm sure they gave him a very potent laxative to flush him out... :shifty:

Re: Star Trek XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet

When do you think they will start going into pre production?

That's what I want to know!
According to this, Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof are supposed to have until Christmas to deliver a script. Assuming that the script comes together on schedule and that the script approval doesn't get bogged down for any reason, I think they could get greenlighted to begin pre-production in the early months of next year.

Re: ST XII : Orci & Kurtzman still reading, not designing yet (H. Mudd

TREK movies used to go into production at most one year from their release date, give or take. Sometimes the same year as in the case of the more recent films. TREK XII will have a grander f/x scope and likely use more complicated sets and locations than most of the more recent TREK movies so I imagine if a script is approved by Paramount by the end of this year we'll see the next movie start shooting by the summer of 2010 at the latest.
