ST XI and TNG fans

After the TNG films, will TNG fans go out to see Star trek XI? Especially after the budget for this film is bigger than the last 4 films, and the fact JJ is behind this instead of shitty directing of Nemesis' director. With adveristing being any trek film. Was TNG fans and films cheated with promise. IMO yes, I would like of see JJ directed one final TNG film.

It's hard to really get excited about it. I guess when the time comes I will be much more excited to see new Trek, but now I don't know much about it and I was really hoping for a theatrical trailer this summer, either through Comic Con to be released with a movie or something else. I hope it's good and I'm sure Abrams will do a pretty good job with it, but I can't help but think that the two writers doing it didn't do a great job with Transformers and how awesome it would be to get Jonathon Frakes back in the fold as director.

As a TNG fan (it's my favorite ST series), yes, I will definitely go to see the movie.
Would I like to see one more TNG movie? Yes, I think I would. A GOOD movie! Like FC, which is a great film, even with smaller budget. And I'm not mad because of the budget. I'm more concerned about it because this new movie now has to earn a lot of money.
I'm really mad because of shitty Nemesis directing, but it's not JJ's fault and I'm glad he is directing ST now. I hope ST is in safe hands with him. I love his work, I am a big LOST fan, too.
I have always liked TOS and it's characters really much, and I'm really looking forward to this new movie.

Given I'm also a TOS fan, I'll be going to see Trek XI. It's as simple as that.

It would have been nice to have a final TNG movie to wash away the foul taste of Nemesis, but it isn't going to happen and I have no problem with that.

If you really want a final TNG movie, you can always watch "All Good Things..." again

You never know. If 11 is a big hit, there will be another film. I think most likely with the same cast and crew. I don't see it directly opening a door for a TNG era project, but who knows.
I'm always down for conceptualizing though. I think it would be important to not try and recapture the TNG crew on the Enterprise in a contrived way. Go ahead and let Picard be semi retired, give several TNG bridge crew their ships: Riker & Troi on one ship, maybe give LaForge the Enterprise (yes! With Wesley or O'Brien as Chief Engineer!). DS9 and VOY characters could and should appear, and give us an epic. If the movie needs to be 3 hours, let it be 3 hours. These arbitrary editing limits almost always hurt the films.
I agree that Frakes directing would be a good move. The big X though is writing. It's a dead horse that the last 2 TNG films were a bit soft in the writing, though I think INS is better than its rep.

I've really hoped that if there is a movie after XI, it doesn't deal with the TNG cast. I think we're done with the TNG cast and they have moved on to bigger and better things. I've always wanted to see a movie dealing with the Lost Era (Between The Undiscovered Country and TNG) or going right after the events of the Dominion War. All this stuff about capitalizing on the original series or doing a prequal is fine and good, but it's not doing anything to move trek forward. TNG and DS9 put forward a universe full of history that didn't get a satisfying conclusion. It's about time we revisit it.

I'll go to see the new film, but that's because I was a TOS fan long before I was ever a TNG fan. As an aside: people slag off the TNG films but, frankly, I enjoyed them more than the TOS films. That's just me, though.

I'm a Star Trek fan, though TNG is my favourite of the five shows I still love the rest and I'm damned excited about Star Trek. I refuse to call it Star Trek XI or whatever. The movie is called Star Trek, no bloody 10, X or I.

I wholeheartedly agree. Most of the longer films tend to be the best kind (see Titanic, Ben Hurr or Gone with the Wind). It allows for more room for story and character development.

Let JJA handle TOS on the big screen and give control of a TNG/DS9/VOY era miniseries to Jonathan Frakes and LeVar Burton. Frakes and Burton have done some great work on Trek and seem to really have their hearts in the right place to take on TV Trek. TOS is best when it tells an epic story that focuses on three main characters and those traits relate well to the big screen. TNG et. al. are more about ensemble casts and strong character development, which works better on TV. IMHO, GEN was good, FC was very good, INS was good, and NEM was poor. None were as good as BoBW, AGT, and many other of the show's episodes. These movies tried to use the TOS formula but it didn't quite work as well. I prefer using the era that the three shows were from rather than one show because it allows for the use of just a few familiar characters plus the addition of several new and original ones. An 8-hour miniseries every six months would be great. Just as the the DVDs come out for the previous one, the next one is aired.

I'm not really interested in Lost Era. I dislike prequels, most of the time. I'm happy about this new film because it will have characters we alll know and like, but a movie or series in Lost Era with new crew and characters? No, please no... Because you always know what will happen after that...
After this one movie I would like to see its sequels, and/or a new series after Nemesis. A few years, ten years or a whole century after - it doesn't really matter.

I will definitely go and see this movie, as I am a Star Trek fan above anything else. My favourite series is TNG though (followed by Voy & DS9 tied) and I would love to see a TNG-era project. Preferably one that doesn't focus so heavily on Data/Picard.

I don't want to be done with the TNG cast, but I think the studio sees it that way, and I'm not sure what else to do with them. Working them in on the holodeck during a prequel episode doesn't really work too well, for example.

This movie is like some huge nexus of geek squeeee to me, considering that I'm a) a Heroes fan b) a Lost fan c) a fan of JJ Abrams in general d) a Trek fan. It's like a Trek movie tailor-made to my type of sci-fi fan, whatever that is. I couldn't possibly be more excited about this movie. Here's hoping it lives up to my expectations.
