ST V's saving grace

Watching it again, now. Yeah, not a great film. But:

KIRK: I don't want my pain taken away. I NEED my pain!

Pure Kirk. One of the few times we saw it in any film. Love it!

There are one or two good bits in this movie, like the scene with McCoy's father. But almost everything else is absolute garbage.

I think the best scenes are of Kirk, Spock and McCoy camping.

And that's really saying something.

The fact of the camping scenes bookending the movie is what enables the whole thing to be explained away as nothing more than a drunken ghost story (another traditional ritual of "camping out" that Spock would want to engage in).

Yep. It's my least favorite of the Trek films, but I like that part also.

That's how I explain away the utter crap that was TATV. (with holodeck fantasies, not camping trip ghost stories)

I never had the dislike for this movie that others had. People were upset that Spock's half brother appeared out of left field, but that's always been the case. The mind meld, Vulcan's psychic abilities, pon far, Spock's fiance, his extra eyelids were created when they were needed for the plot.

Here we go again..

I think V is far better than INSURRECTION and NEMESIS. The character moments, SYBOK, trump anything in those two TNG movies combined...

Nope, a group up in Seattle did up a fanfilm parody of MST3K doing STV. The fact that their budget was just about as nonexistant as the real show only adds to the ambience.

Here's a link...
