ST:TMP - Lost Footage from the Trench

Where's the trench, dangnabbit??!!

In the immortal words of Parmen from the Season Three TOS Episode Plato's Stepchildren: "I am losing patience, Cap-TAIN!!"

It's located in the western Pacific ocean:

Hope that helps!

Dave

PS. ;)

So... we are still waiting for the trench.
And now I can't get into the trekhistory site as my web protection software detects it as mallware.

Will we ever see this footage? Can it not just be posted on youtube? Or the stills posted here? You know... for the good of all Trek fans... rather than being used to get more hits for a website.

I know work has gone / is going into the restoration of this footage, but speaking for myself, if I had something I felt other Trek fans would dig, I'd damn well put it out there.

*awaits to backlash to this 'bump', despite the fact that the potential reveal of a massive missing sequence from ST-TMP is possibly the most exciting thing to happen in classic Trek news in recent history*

We're never going to see it.

I've given up all hope.

*sigh*

That's a pretty strong sense of entitlement you've got workin', there.

My understanding is that it's going to be a special feature attached to the final act of Starship Exeter - The Tressaurian Intersection.

I can only say, were it in my possession, it would have been out there for the fans to have seen a long time ago.

Put it like this, its not like an eternal motion machine, that we're asked to fund without seeing in action.

I'm satisfied to wait and see this in as high a quality as possible.

Well, it seems some people here are into verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry delayed gratification.

I talked to Curt McAloney about this "footage" since at least as far back as 2007. If I recall correctly, he was supposed to have acquired the footage from a "film collector" (Alchemist perhaps?) back then.

So, um...3 years? C'mon.

Patience is one thing...but this is ridiculous. Stills are meaningless since even I have still images from the sequence -- and I gave those to Forgotten Trek a long time ago. I even acquired artwork and all kinds of archival stuff (storyboards and preproduction art) from Richard Taylor and David Negron.

We wasted no time making it all available to the fan community.

Yeah, but it was all covered in fingerprints and dust and the like.

For those of you who haven't heard, startrekhistory.com was recently hacked and infected with malware. So, unfortunately, its content needed to be removed. Curt is hard at work on restoring the site, and when it comes back, it will have an all new look, expanded content, and new, never-before-seen interviews. In the meantime...

Last year, startrekhistory.com was contacted by an individual who possessed 2-1/2 minutes of lost footage from ST:TMP. I had the pleasure of telecining that footage (from fading anamorphic work prints), and, when the site is up and running, you will be able to view it there along with some other gems from the movie.

In brief, it appears that the footage is comprised of five takes of three scenes, i.e., two takes each of two scenes and one take of one scene. The scenes are of Kirk in the V'Ger trench encountering the crystals and then being overcome by them. As a teaser, below is a color-corrected image from a single frame located at the beginning of the film. Enjoy!

One year later....

I read the first post of this thread without realizing it was a resurrected Zombie thread. My first thought was, "wait, this guy hasn't seen Trek '09 yet?"

Then I looked at the date ...

So, safe to assume the "release" of this footage was either a) a hoax or b) halted by the Paramount/CBS legal department?

Or, c) they just haven't finished it.
