Spoilers ST Strange New Worlds - Starships and Technology Season Three Discussion

He said earlier today that the new designs in the new Starbase 1 title sequence shot were not approved, they also won't show up in the rest of the season. He didn't know they were there until the same time we did.

He did say in the comments of another post that if he can he might put a couple in Season 5.

That's the USS Kelcie Mae from last season. We only saw her in a couple brief shots (and one more here) but it's good to see she hasn't been forgotten in the midst of a half dozen new kitbash designs.

Edit: Oops, didn't know this had already been answered. Leaving the link here for reference. Do we know if any of these new ships are labeled, or if they're blank or still named as they were in their previous appearances?

One of the Shepards has a visible registry but the stream quality makes it hard to read. It’s at 1 minute 47 seconds in

May have to wait for the blu-ray release

"False Federderation Ship"? Sort of like they took the early Discovery model's saucer and gave it a NX style hull.
It's a concept for the decoy ship built out of destroyed Starfleet ships to attack the Klingons in the season two premiere and restart the war. The final ship had basically that design, except the rear section is inverted so the deflector is above the hull and the nacelles below.

The fake ship does briefly appear at the beginning of that same episode in heavy shadow docked at Starbase One, but it's upside down, so I say we pretend that that ship is this one, which is apparently a real Starfleet design and not a composite built out of multiple ships.

Sidebar: William Cheng's been working in Toronto TV and film stuff for a decade or two now.

I completely forgot the hull was inverted on the final design

The opening credits VFX vendor for some reason made all the RCS thrusters glow

"Nebula-class" is also probably a placeholder name and not meant to be the actual class name, but who knows. CAN we have two classes of the same name in the same fleet?

Mark

Even before we get to the 32nd century ships, we have three Constitution-classes and two Excelsior-classes by the beginning of the 25th century. It probably won't end up being the official name, but it's not unprecedented for them to retcon it so that the Nebula we've known is actually the Nebula-II.

None of those three ships were official, so whatever was written on the concept art probably isn't going to be valid anyway.

There is some precedence in fan works for there being (II) subclasses or refits of existing ones, for whatever that might be worth. Although in most of the ones I'm familiar with, there's little physical difference between the designs and mainly just internal changes to the hardware. An example would be the handful of Enterprise (II) class refits from SoTS. There's also variants like the Endeavor subclass which is basically the standard Constitution hull with different nacelles and minor system variations.

I admit that, on a purely personal level, this is one reason I'm not always a fan of trying to take later designs and remake them with older aesthetics, because it has the potential to make things more convoluted. That being said, I do like the design of the new old Nebula. I would just probably use a different name personally. :D
