Bravo! What a nice epilogue to a great story. I especially liked the part where the old science officer packs it in and young Shanthi grits his teeth and jumps in - bittersweet, but well done.

My favorite line: "You and your crew operate with all the subtly of a brick through a glass window." A badge of honor, indeed!

Congratulations on another outstanding Gibraltar story.

The tension you have managed to build over the course of this adventure was exceptional and so where the compelling story-lines you have created, some of which will hopefully resurface in your next stories.

While I might not have agreed with all decisions you made I have to say that overall this was one of your most entertaining stories and only proves that you consistently manage to outdo yourself. This also means that I expect your next story to be even better than this one … no pressure.


I liked your epilogue but I do have one little question. Did Pell tell Sandhurst about the Bajora-Pava and their plans for Bajor or did he find out some other way? That begs the question how much exactly she did tell them about her encounter and about the leader of the group.

^Pell remembers nothing of her time with the Bajorans. All Starfleet knows about them is what Ramirez and her away team learned during their time on Ba'ku with Prylar-Captain Bral's people.

I'm currently reading Sutherland "Shoreleave," so I know what Gibraltar's crew is in for.

I agree with the above: fantastic tale and wonderful wrap up. The brick through the window line was one of my all time favorites of this installment, as well.

Also, I just have to say I continue to be utterly impressed with your ability to convey situations, feelings, sensations ..., images so concisely yet completely. I'm thinking in particular here of the scene between Sandhurst and Pell on the beach. Everything from the sunscreen servitor to the condensation on Sandy's glass to the languid, "reluctant" nature of his movements. I was right there with them.

Congrat's on another fantastic romp through your universe.

(now it looks like I have to catch up on my Sutherland reading so I can see what heppens next.)

I would definitely nominate the brick through the window line as one of the best lines I've read--I hope you'll put it up as a memorable quote. The beach scene was a nicely done bit of scene painting--details matter and you did a good job in picturing a tropical beach scene here.

And yes, if there's a party, you've got to have the Sutherland...

I know I've been a little slow in responding to the last couple of chapters, but I'm still trying to work my head around something:

This whole thing started as a result of Admiral Jellico and the Klingons trying to make the Alshain burn off some ships and some dangerous aggression before they tried something worse? Am I reading that right?

That's deep. That's like Tom Clancy deep!

I'm a little sad to see the story end, but the beach scene was nice.

That pretty much the size of it. Jellico knew Picard had been lobbying for such a mission, and that the President wanted to make some political gains prior to the upcoming election by playing peacekeeper. It proved relatively easy for Jellico and his conspirators to merge those ideas in such away as to convince the President to send Picard’s task force into the Briar Patch, knowing full well what the Alshain response would be.

As Yejokk described it, the plan was a geo-political ‘controlled burn’ meant to cripple the growing Alshain war machine, get the Exarchate embroiled in a Son’a/Tarlac/Ellora insurgency in the Briar Patch, and essentially keep the Alshain occupied for the next decade at least with the whole resulting mess.

I don’t think this is the end of the tale, however. I have an inkling that DarKush may be picking up this story thread somewhere along the way and running with it.
