ST: Gibraltar - An Alternate Universe Tale

Thanks to CamSPD (aka Christina Moore) for the terrific cover art for our joint story! :techman:

I'm loving seeing this side of Pava, as he might have been.

I hate to say it, but wasn't Pava actually like that in his pre-Starfleet past? Or is this a line even he wouldn't cross, back then?
Fair point, Nerys. There isn't much Pava hasn't or wouldn't have done during the darker chapters of his life. So, no, this isn't a mirror-Pava, more like a Pava shifted just a shade more cruel by prolonged exposure to the Klingon Empire. In the UT universe, he was shown politely to the door of the Klingon house with which he was affiliated.

Something... ahem... about besmirching a princess' honor or other. :alienblush:

That's what I'm loving about this: it's less a MU story than a "what if" story, where Pava is concerned. I really love seeing you play more with the revelations of "Klingon Afternoon".

To what degree has the UT-universe Pava reformed, since then? I've never thought it was very much. Which is why in the Round Robin over at Ad Astra, I had AU Dukat react to him the way he did--to look at Pava and think, Is this what people from these other universes expect to see when they look at me? I know that had Pava stayed around longer, in that story, AU Dukat would've given him a very wide berth.

But somehow I think that the UT Pava would no longer cross this particular line.

Would he?

I like Regan--pardon the crudeness of what I'm going to say here, but she has balls when it comes to going up against the Klingons.

As for Sandhurst...as dangerous as I know this will be for all crews involved, I want to see a battle too. Even more so since I know there's an extra-evil Pava involved, who needs to be killed.

Random update, but I just had to share this...

Thanks to CamSPD, I give you Commander Liana Ramirez

They did a very good job with the photomanip--very high quality!

It's interesting, though, because I always pictured Ramirez as more physically imposing and not as youthful (not in a bad way, though).

Actually, Ramirez is only 5'4" and at the start of the Gibraltar series is 34 years old.

Her stature is the reason more than one unfortunate soul has underestimated her.

That photomanip is very cool, and very well done! I say that, physically, that's pretty close to how I've long pictured Ramirez in my mind. But, I should probably confess that - completely contrary to any physical description we've been given - I've always pictured her with ... um ... red hair. Not RED red, mind you; not Lucille Ball red. :p

In my defense, I think it's because I live in a neighborhood of Boston with a very large Dominican and Puerto Rican population, and there is this particular color of brown/red that many, many of the women wear (whether natural or not I cannot say for certain ... for the most part; some are quite obviously dye jobs, but many are much more subtle), and I've always just seen Liana that way. I know ..., :wtf: ... right?

And, all that having been said, I love seeing how the author pictures her, or any character.

I also find it interesting how others picture some of the characters. For instance, I've got Clive Owen sort of in my head for Sandhurst, based on very early conversations with Gibraltar. But, I personally have always imagined Pava being much more ... "lithe" (if you will) than Liev Schreiber. I can't quite come up with an actor who would fit the bill, but I'll work on that one and get back to ya. ;)

I got Clive Owen from Gibraltar too, though I have trouble making Sandhurst speak in Clive's voice.

Liev can be nice and skinny when he wants to be...

Well, awaiting more-just read the whole thing through. Very well done, btw. The scene with alt-Pava and the kids... a little too effective. Upset me a bit.

On the recent topic of which actors we might see in the roles of our favorite USS Gibraltar crewmembers, I just saw Alexander Skarsgard in something where he was NOT in character (or make up or hair style) as Eric Northman, and realized that he is awfully close in many respects to my mental image of Pava Lar'ragos. Not perfect, not 100% of the mental image I have mind you, but seems to embody quite a lot of elements.

Just thought I'd share (and am curious how this might square with Gibraltar's image of him.)

As the first person to suggest a Star Wars character for our shared universe at TOT11F, I don't see a problem. Ok, my Yoda-based character didn't get a good receptive response as a senior commander, but I think that some of the others are a great hit.
