ST:DISC's greatest failing...yes this is TOS related

The main thing keeping us from getting a TUC-TNG intermediate series is that no one wants to be locked down to the Monster Maroons, IMO.

I think another problem is the continuity, since, while it would be sequel to TOS, it would be a (true) prequel to The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager.

Although we'd better not say much or next we'll hear of Kurtzman touching Star Trek Stargazer as a prequel to Star Trek The Next Generation & Star Trek Picard, and it probably won't be as good as Michael Jan Friedman's series.

Agreed--it was about trying to rewrite the ST universe in a way that would never paint the picture that TOS was the future of said universe.
Also introducing TNG era villains. I mean, the Borg episode was ridiculous. Why would it take 24th century Borg all that time to upgrade a 22nd century freighter. Also, why did the Borg not upgrade the ship's shields to 24th century shields? it was ridiculous to think that a 22nd century starship could defeat 24th computer technology. It wasn't 22nd century or earlier Borg that were frozen in the ice---the Borg were frozen after travelling from the 24th century and fighting the Enterprise-E. And i would think that that Borg that thawed, would pass its 24th century information onto the new Borg, similar to how Seven of Nine was able to have a large computer library in her head.

But no one complained--because the TOS design always begat everything that followed--TAS, TOS movies, Berman ST. One could easily see how that universe, or even just Starfleet appeared to have a believable, evolutionary flow from one series / era to another. Its the reason ENT's best episodes--the two part "In a Mirror, Darkly"--was such a fan favorite, where next to no one questioned a TOS-era ship / costumes / devices working as advanced tech to the ENT crew.
Isn't In A Mirror Darkly like the Top Episode of Enterprise? There was very little information about the Mirror Universe, that it worked. And with the Defiant, they didn't need to raid the cutlery drawer to find a couple of potatoe peelers! That's an issue with Discovery's Enterprise---it looks like its trying to connect with the TMP movies, rather than being set in between "The Cage" and TOS.

...all because the "creators" of DSC could not generate a solid character of their own without grafting it to a classic character (and the development built around him), as if that association was going to make MB palatable. Whoops.

Even after 2 seasons with 26 episodes, I still find that I really don't give a care in the world about Michael Burnham. She is the least interesting lead character in Star Trek. Discovery has done a worst job at character development than The Next Generation in its first, 26 episode season.

Discovery has shown us, nobody is locked down to anything and all the resultant whinging online are just online impressions that boost Trek's profile in parrot analytics:lol:.

Also DS9, the Kelvin movies and Discovery/Short Treks showed us concurrent different uniforms in use, so they could dress their characters however they want.

Why, oh why didn't they go with a Sulu series after TUC or set in that time instead of ENT which was a silly idea? I know I've heard rumours of George Takei not being a strong enough lead or good enough actor but at least we as fans were okay with him! It seems like the Berman thing again to not pander to TOS and ignoring it even further whilst making a prequel to TNG like as what's been said on here before! ;)

I
disappointing thing is they didn't jump feet first into that kind of setting.
Yes I am shocked they didn't jump right into mail order bride/sex traffic stories. I never liked the Mudd character until the Rainn Wilson version.

Mudd was more threatening in Mudd's Women than I, Mudd. Both eps are on my no-go list for different reasons.

You're thinking of the ep w here he keeps replaying the day? That was really good. It was like an episode as opposed.to merely a piece of the arc. There've been a few of those in two seasons. Maybe I'll rewatch S1. Except they ruined Lorca for me. I thought he was great. Then...

the universe is not small and Kirk isn't lurking behind every corner.
Sarek and Amanda are, and that made the setting feel very small to me. Mom and Dad constantly popping up doesn't exactly make it feel like they're isolated in deep space.

And if you ask me, a Disco / TOS cross-discussion seems more like it belongs in GTD.

Because that has not been what fans have demonstrated interest in, based upon the success of the Abrams' films, fan films like Star Trek Continues and Phase 2/New Voyages, among others.

I wouldn't say there's any episode of TOS that I hate, but Mudd's Women is certainly at/near the bottom for me. Ugh.

I, Mudd is far, far worse with that peculiar demonstration of ill-logic to confuse and bamboozle Norman's androids!!!

TOS - "I Mudd" is a classic for this exchange alone:

You want some truly crap TOS episodes? Nothing is worse than either "And The Children Shall Lead" or "Way To Eden".

edit - fixed typo.

Although they aren't my favourite episodes there are three worse than these in season three! :techman:
