ST Con Vegas '08 Pix.....

^That Talosian costume is great!

The Tolosian won the contest as well.

Then there was the "Klingon from Uranus" which caused someone in the back to scream "vote for the turd" repeatedly.

The Hortas were funny in a silly-all-in-fun way.

Mirror Spock wasn't bad either. I sat behind him for half a day and noticed it looked like he actually did the partial eyebrow shave, grew the pointed sideburns, and applied his ear tips professionally. But against one of three stagefulls of other more flamboyant costumes, it didn't show up as well.

I did like the guy who played Sybok (he wasn't in the contest), as he actually bore a resemblence to Laurence Luckinbill.

The guy who was Sybok was in the contest-- as the Jem'Hadar! His wife was a Vorta in the contest as well.

So who did win the costume contest?
I didn't stick around to see it because, the 3 other Vegas conventions I've been to, it was either the guy dressed like a Borg or the Patrick Stewart lookalike who have won and I'm kind of tired of seeing them in these contests.

The Keeper from the Cage won. A family of Horta were runners up as was someone dressed as the Black Slime Monster. The costumes were somewhat more imaginitive that what I am used to, though there were a lot of Trois at this convention.
I even saw someone dressed as a TOS Romulan Commander. I'd never seen that before.

I have a favor to ask... If anyone lives in Las Vegas and has August 12th's Las Vegas Sun newspaper, could you please contact me? There is an article in it with a photo of me and my friend Barron, but I called The Sun and they said they don't sell back issues :-(

Also, during Zachary Quinto's time on stage, my wife asked him a question and he ran off the stage and gave her a hug (she was dressed as an Andorian). If anyone got a shot of this, she would love to have it.
If you have a photo of this, could you please let me know via PM?

Thanks!
I will put a request a t Freecycle and see what I can come up with.

I completely understand. Honestly, winning three years in a row was enough for me-- I'm glad that Susie won for her Talosian outfit :bolian:

Don't get me wrong, I think your Borg costume is awesome. I just want to see someone else win for a change.
BTW, does Creation let people who buy costumes from the actual Trek shows and movies, from the Christie's Auction, take part in the costume contest?

Thanks-- no offense taken :) I seriously like participating in the contest just to take pictures with other people in costume and to plain have fun. For me, winning something is just icing on the cake. As a finalist this year (and although I didn't place) I got a T-shirt, which is a nice memento.

To answer your question, yes, Creation DOES let people who buy screen-used costumes participate in the contest. It's kind of on the honor system-- if your costume looks TOO good, Adam (the MC and co-owner of Creation) will ask you if you made it yourself or if you bought it, and he'll announce it either way. As someone who has spent since 1994 working on his Borg costume and creating it from scratch, I have a lot of respect for all the other costumers who can create something cool to show off, rather than just outbid everyone else at auction.
