SPREAD THE WORD!!!

When was the last time you bough anything Star trek-centric for someone who wouldn't exactly call a big time TREK fan..and what was it??? Have you done your part, just like those well groomed men in the white business shirts on ten-speed bikes, who work the neighborhood around town?

Have you...spread the TREK word, and brought in new believers. SAVE THE PAGENS; spread the word of Star Trek!!! (or TJ Hooker if you can't get them to watch TREK)

Rob

"pagan" is the word, actually. And meh. Most people I talk to are either already fans, or have tried it and didn't like it. Every time I see something like this, I think of "convert the heathens!" from some episode of The Simpsons.

I've sold my five year old on it. Does that count? He wants a Star Trek party when he turns six, and apparently my house is crawling with Borg that only he can see and destroy with the phaser he built out of Legos, (Actually, he built phasers and tricorders for the whole family, we just haven't used them yet.)

I'm torn between pride and the strange feeling that I may have ended his social life before he even hit kindergarten. Thank goodness for the new movie, maybe that will help.

i can see some of the comparison rob is trying to draw - trekkies (-ers) and those nice kids on bikes who shall apparently remain nameless both have reputations for being socially weird and kinda nuts. the difference being, of course, that we (the vast majority of us) accept that our stuff is fiction.
....
and i can always get a little twinge in my gut over such an obvious display of genuine enthusiasm. especially when i to a large degree share that enthusiasm. :techman: however, rob, i think it's best to take the softer approach, just inject it into the lives of people you know via your own experiences. if they are attracted to it, take them deeper. if not, you save both them and yourself the vexation of some kind of psycho-battle.
i have taken this approach with several different kinds of personal development. i admit that i have yet to test it with science fiction, but it seems to work really well in other areas. the key thing that most proseletyzers don't see (or refuse to acknowledge:shifty:) - you can't help someone who doesn't really want you to.

I totally agree..so we must all procreate to inject new fans. My son is well on his way to being a TREK fan. He even knows that CAPTAIN KIRK / William Shatner is GOD, and that is all that he needs to know! And that STAR WARS is a four letter word in our house!!!
